We were currently speeding towards Robins apartment. We weren't sure what was wrong, but I was determined to get Vicky to her sister as fast as I could...Vicky jumped out before I could even put the car in park and rushed into the apartment building.
I followed after her, trying my best to keep pace.
As we approached Robins door, I called out. "Vicky, hold up."
She stopped and turned to me. "Liv, she's my sis-"
I put my hand up, cutting her off. "I know. But, if she's in some sort of danger, then I'm going through that door first."
Vicky lowered her head, breathing heavily from all the running. "You're right..."
I walked past her, taking her hand, leading her to the door.
We looked up at it, unsure what was waiting for us on the other side.
I grabbed the handle, looking at Vicky, whispering, "Three... Two... One!"
We burst through the door and stopped short. Jack stood in the middle of the living room, his back to us.
Vicky walked past me. "Jack?" She questioned, placing her hand on his shoulder.
He spun quickly, back handing her, sending her crashing through the coffee table.
I charged in, kneeling next to her. "What the fuck is your problem!?"
Jack stood over us, shoulders heaving, specs of green shinning through his brown eyes.
He grabbed me by the throat and lifted me off my feet, staring into my eyes as his grip tightened.
"Jack..." I choked out, grabbing his arm.
Vicky got to her feet. "Jack! Let her go!"
He turned to her, the green in his eyes intensifying.
I collapsed to my knees when he let me go, sucking in as much air as I could.
Then, he grabbed Vicky, hauling her over his shoulders before marching towards the door.
Vicky yelled, slamming her fists into his back. "Let go of me!"
I quickly got to my feet and grabbed Vicky's arms, trying to pull her from his grasp.
He spun quickly, kicking me hard in the chest, sending me flying back across the room, before crashing through the third story window.
I let out a yell as I fell all the way to the sidewalk outside, everything going black...
When I finally came to, my eyes fluttered open, a slight pain still radiating through my body. I looked up, seeing a crowd of people standing around me.
They backed off as I stood up, looking around for Vicky. But, didn't see her.
I quickly made my way back to my car and popped the trunk.
Inside sat an ancient sword wrapped in leather. A sword I once carried into battle. A sword I haven't touched in a very long time.
I pulled it out, unsheathing it. The blade shining slightly in the afternoon sun.
Everyone ran off as I charged past them, making a beeline for Robins apartment.
I held my sword tightly in front of me as I slowly crept back through the door.
Fear spread through me when I realized the apartment was empty. Jack was gone, and with him, Vicky.
I ran back outside to my car, tossing the sword on the passenger seat before starting it up and taking off.
"Where the hell did he take her?" I asked myself.
And why was he acting like that? The green in his eyes, the extra strength, the one track mind. He must be under some kind of spell. The book. Whoever had it, must be using it to brainwash him. But why? Why go after Robin or Vicky for that matter. If Betty truly does have the book, what are her intentions? I thought she and Vicky were friends.
My mind continued to race, trying to piece together what just happened.
Then, my new phone rang out.
I quickly answered it. "Hello? Who is this?"
"I think you know." Came Betty's voice.
I clenched my teeth. "What'd you do with Vicky?"
She chuckled from the other end. "Don't worry about her for now. She's still alive."
"What about Jack and Robin?" I asked.
"For the time being, I still need them."
"What for? Why are you doing this?" I asked.
"All in due time." She replied.
I shook my head. "Fine. What do you want from me?"
"Simple. I want you out of the way. Dead, is preferable."
Easier said than done.
"Alright, why don't you tell me where you are and we can settle this like adults."
"I'll text you the address." Then, she hung up.
I slammed my hand on the steering wheel. As of right now, everyone was still alive, or so she said. But, for how long?
After receiving the address, I put it into the GPS and followed the directions.
They led me outside of the city, into the New York countryside.
The sun started to set as I drove down a small, dirt road leading deep into the woods.
I finally pulled into a clearing, coming up on a giant, abandoned mansion.
I parked the car and stepped out, sword in hand.
If Vicky was in there, I needed to find her and fast.
I hesitantly made my way towards the front doors, unsure what, if anything, was waiting for me.
That's when I felt the ground start to shake, heard the dirt start to separate.
I turned around, seeing a pair of bony hands reaching through the soil.
I stepped back as more arms started shooting up.
"Holy shit..." I said, taking in the army of undead skeletons forming in front of me.
There had to be at least thirty of them, if not more.
I raised my sword, gripping it tightly.
The skeletons stretched their limbs and popped their joints. A ghostly, green fog seeming to hold them together. The same color shining through their eye sockets.
Then, they noticed me. Their teeth chattered as they started walking towards me.
My heartbeat quickened, my breathing becoming heavy. For the first time in a long time, I was afraid.
But, I wouldn't let that slow me down.
"Alright... If it's a fight you want... Let's go!" I challenged.
I let out a war cry as I dove into the fray...
