After a short drive, we pulled up next to the park. I shut the car off and got out, Vicky following me.I looked around the park. "Nice place."
Vicky took my hand in hers, leading me deeper into the park. "Wait till you see this."
After a short walk, we stopped in front of a small waterfall. A small bridge ran along the top and forest surrounded it.
I smiled as I watched the water flow over the rocks. "Wow, it's beautiful."
"Tell me about it..." She replied, taking a quick glance at me.
It grew quiet as we watched the water flow. Then, she grabbed my hand again, leading me towards the bridge.
We stood on it and looked out over the small creek below us.
I leaned on the railing. "I can see why you like coming here."
She leaned next to me, a small smile on her face. "Yeah... Thanks by the way."
I looked over at her. "For what?"
She took a quick glance at me before looking out over the creek again. "For hanging out with me... Not everyone would willingly hang out with someone who only has a year to live."
I took her hand in mine, giving it a gentle squeeze. "Well, I'm not everyone."
She smiled at me, a quick gust of wind blowing her hair in her face.
She giggled as I moved a strand of hair behind her ear, looking deep into her eyes.
'God, she's beautiful.' I thought.
She ran her thumb over the back of my hand. "What're you thinking about?"
I looked down at our hands. "Nothing much... Just how beautiful you look right now."
A slight blush crept onto her cheeks. "I'm nothing compared to you..."
I looked back into her eyes. "In all my life, you're the most gorgeous thing I've ever laid eyes on... And I've seen a lot of things."
She flashed me a humorous smile. "Oh, so now I'm just a thing?"
I rolled my eyes, letting out a small chuckle. "You know what I mean."
She sighed and lowered her head. "Why did I have to meet you at the end of my life?"
I looked down as well. "I don't know..."
She shook her head. "It's not fair."
"I know..." I replied in barely a whisper.
She ran her hands over her face. "I'm sorry."
I stood up, taking her hand in mine again. "Don't be... You didn't ask for cancer and you definitely don't deserve it... I just wish there was something I could do."
"Unless you have the cure for cancer in your pocket, there isn't much you can do." She replied, a sad look crossing her features.
I stood tall, pulling her with me. "I may not have the cure for cancer, but I vow to make the rest of your life the best it can be... Starting with this."
Before she could reply, I leaned in, pressing my lips to hers.
She was hesitant at first, but eventually brought her hands up to cup my cheeks while I ran mine down her back.
We slowly pulled apart and she rested her forehead on mine. "What was that for..?" She asked breathlessly.
I smiled. "The start of the best year of your life."
