She looked up from her food, giving me a slight smile when she saw the look on my face. "Sorry, I tend to jump right to the point. Why waste what time I have left, you know?"

I nodded slowly. "Sorry... About the cancer."

She just waved me off. "No need, it's not your fault."

   "Right..."

We ate the rest of our meal in silence, but my mind was a buzz.

After eating, we hopped back in my car and I drove her back home.

She faced me as I pulled in front of her apartment. "Hey, sorry to dump all that on you."

"Oh, it's alright. That's a real bummer though."

She smiled slightly before looking down. "Tell me about it."

I looked down to. "Sorry, that sounded better in my head."

She looked back at me before patting my shoulder. "It's alright... But, I'd really like to hang out with you again. If I didn't scare you off already that is."

I faced her with a smile. "Trust me, I've seen a lot in my life. It'll take more than that to scare me off."

She smiled back. "So, is that a yes?"

I gave her a nod and she returned before stepping out of my car.

"Well, you know where I live, drop by anytime." She said with a slight laugh before waving me off...

I parked underneath a secluded bridge on the rough side of town and rested my head on the steering wheel.

'Why is it I get to live a thousand lifetimes, when people like her don't even get to enjoy one?' I thought.

I sighed as I stepped out of my car and popped the trunk. Inside sat relics of the past. Items I've acquired over said lifetimes. Things that would be worth a fortune these days.

I sifted around a little before finding what I was looking for: a dusty, leather bound book.

I got back in the car and set it up on the steering wheel, carefully flipping through its old pages.

'There has to be something in here that can help her.'

Now, I picked this book up from a supposed witch a few hundred years ago. I've read it cover to cover a million times in hopes of finding a way to break my curse.

The book contained everything from transferring curses to casting one's of your own. Unfortunately, it didn't tell me how to break them.

But, maybe I'd get lucky and find something that could help Vicky.

I scanned each page for hours, trying to find something that would help. Unfortunately for me, there was nothing.

I threw the book on the passenger seat and leaned back in my seat.

"Some fucking spell book you are." I said in anger.

With a sigh I grabbed my bottle of rum from the glove compartment and finished it off before leaning my seat back and attempting to get some sleep...

I awoke to a loud tap on my window. I glanced up and saw a younger guy in dirty, ripped up clothes.

I rolled the window down. "Can I help you?"

He looked around before sticking a gun at me. "You can help me by getting the fuck out of your car."

With a sigh I stepped out and faced the mugger. "Look, I'm really not in the mood-"

"Shut the fuck up!" He yelled, gun pointed directly at my head.

I chuckled. "Listen buddy, if you're gonna pull that trigger, then do it. Or get the hell out of my face."

With a slight smile he squeezed the trigger, sending a bullet right between my eyes, causing me to stumble back into the side of my car.

I slammed my hand on the roof of my car before bringing it up to my forehead. "God dammit, that hurt! I can't believe you actually did that."

He stared at me, wide eyed, as I turned to face him again. "Wh-what the hell? You should be dead."

I rubbed my forehead before bringing my hand down, a little bit of blood was on my palm. "Yeah, tell me about it."

He slowly backed up as the wound on my head started to heal itself, the bullet sliding out and dropping onto the pavement.

"What the fuck are you?" He asked, his hand shaking.

"Pissed off and if you don't leave, like right now, I'm gonna make you wish you were never born."

He slowly backed up a little more, dropping his gun in the process.

I gave him a small wave before he took off running in the opposite direction.

I shook my head as I bent down and picked up his gun, throwing it into a nearby dumpster.

"Jackass." I said as I got back into my car and started it up, driving off in search of a new parking spot...

I spent the next week debating on whether or not I should visit Vicky again.

I mean I wanted to, but maybe it would be better if I cut my loses before I got to attached.

'No, you got yourself into this and you're gonna see it through. She only has a year to live, if that. So you're gonna make sure she has the best year of her life.' I thought.

With new found determination, I started my car and drove off to her apartment.

I walked through the doors of her apartment building and headed straight for the front desk.

The lady behind the desk looked up with a smile. "Hello, how can I help you today?"

I rubbed the back of my neck. "Well, I'm looking for a girl who lives here. Her names Vicky, she has long dark hair and beautiful blue eyes."

"Beautiful huh?" I heard from behind me.

I turned to see Vicky standing there, a big smile on her face.

I returned it. "The most beautiful eyes I've ever seen."

She looked down, attempting to hide a blush.

I faced the woman behind the desk again. "Thanks anyway."

She nodded and I turned back to Vicky, following her out the door.

We stood next to my car. "Honestly, I didn't think I'd ever see you again." She said.

I looked down with a small smile. "Well, I couldn't get you out of my head all week."

She smiled at me. "Me neither..."

I met her gaze. "I'm here now... So, what do you wanna do today? We can do anything you want."

Her smile grew a little wider. "Anything at all?"

   I nodded.

She scratched her chin. "Hmm... Well, there's this really beautiful park I like to visit... I've always wanted to bring someone with me."

I nodded again. "Then that's what we'll do."

I opened the door to let her in, grabbing the spell book and tossing it on the back seat.

Once we were inside, she faced me. "You read?"

I glanced back at the book before facing her, shrugging. "Not really, but that book holds some value to me, so."

She nodded, and then we were off, heading towards this park...
