The next day ~~In the carriage, I couldn't breathe. It felt like all the oxygen in the world had been sucked out, and I was left with nothing. And when I stepped out and saw the palace, I felt lightheaded and almost passed out and I would have reached the ground if not for one of the guards that had caught me.
Mistress Elena gave me a glare that could freeze wine when I was steady on my feet.
"You better behave yourself and not mess this up, because if you do, I will take you back to Ryauche, and you will work with your body every minute of your miserable life till you die. Am I clear? ", Her voice dripped with venom.Miserably, I nodded.
What a turn right?
And after that, we walked in.
The duel was to begin at seven in the evening, for the sake of the vampires and their sun situation. The royals could walk under the sun, but their servants couldn't that's why it was to start by that time, and for whatever reason, Mistress Elena had brought us here four hours earlier.
The courtyard was decorated with flowers, and lights that I felt were unnecessary. There were already eager fairies seated at the stands waiting for the duel to begin. I could see them pointing at me and whispering that's the prize, and I could see a lot of them making bets on whether the alpha king or vampire king would win. Only titled men and their servants were to be in attendance.
The torment I was feeling could not be properly described.
As if that was not enough, the fairy king had given Mistress Elena and I something like a box with seats in it, and it had a ceiling for shade. I needed air. Air that wasn't in this courtyard. That wasn't near Mistress Elena or anyone for that matter. The box was only suffocating me further.
After I have no idea how long, the queen sent a servant to call Mistress Elena to her chambers, and she told me to come with her and told the guards to remain at our box to signify that we were still in the palace.
Women weren't allowed in duels, and for one as great as this, it was surprising Mistress Elena and I were even allowed to be in attendance.
After eavesdropping on the guards at the courtyard's entrance as they spoke while we passed -It technically wasn't eavesdropping if we were passing while they discussed- I learned it was because they wanted her to bear witness to the winner and who she would be handing her prize to.
I wanted to vomit.
On the way to the Queen's chambers, I realized something.
One; We weren't with guards, which meant I wasn't going to be watched.
Two; There was no way the queen would let a pet, me, in particular, who her husband and sons were infatuated with step into her chambers so I would have to wait outside.
Hope soared in me.
This was my chance to leave this place. I could escape this. All I had to do was find a way to get out of the palace through the back that led to the rivers and forest.
I was going to be successful, I knew I could do this.
We stopped in front of the Queen's chambers and I swallowed as Mistress Elena regarded me with her cold eyes.
"You are to wait outside this door. Have I made myself clear?", She uttered.
Yes!!!
I curtsied. " Yes, Mistress".
She turned around and knocked on the Queen's door. An unguarded door. You can't tell me this wasn't fate.
It didn't take long before a guard opened the door and she was let in. A smile appeared on my face as the door slammed shut in my face after she entered.
