Chapter 15

CHAPTER 15 - Amberpaw

"Snaptooth!" Featherwink cried. Startled, Amberpaw snapped up.

Surely if she needed a medicine cat she'd call one? She thought, padding into the other room. It had been a quarter moon since she had kitted. Once she had taken a look, nothing seemed wrong with Featherwink or her kits.

Except one had its eyes open and was moving around. "Look! Flurrykit opened her eyes!" Featherwink announced.

Snaptooth rushed into the medicine den and gaped. "Wow! Incredible!" He whispered, his eyes watering. He lowered his muzzle so that Flurrykit could climb atop it.

"AH! TOO HIGH!" He cried as Flurrykit climbed onto his eyes and bit his ears.

She chuckled and jumped down. Then she nudged her brother. "Stormykit, wake up! I know you've opened your eyes!" She hissed.

Stormykit blinked his eyes open and then rolled them at his sister.

"Why'd you have to spill the secret?" He chuckled. Featherwink blinked at her kit, surprised.

"Have you all opened your eyes? Am I just now knowing?" She asked in disbelief.

Flurrykit looked down, guilty. "We wanted it to be a surprise," she whispered.

Snaptooth was quick to clear up the situation. "Oh, it's fine! She's so happy for you," he mewed softly.

Skykit and Nightkit opened their eyes, too. "Looks like they're ready to meet the Clan. You'll be allowed out of the nursery once you meet Willowpaw," Featherwink blinked at them with warmth.

"Yay!" Skykit wagged her short tail quickly and sprang up and down.

Amberpaw felt a rush of affection towards her sister. I remember when she told Snaptooth and Featherwink about that. Hopefully we can look after them together! I can tell that they're going to be a pawfull! Surely Willowpaw will quit on me? There's no way she's going to really help me with them, is there?

"Willowpaw!" She called. The gray she-cat rushed into the medicine den quickly.

"Yes?" She panted. Amberpaw gestured to the kits playing on the den floor. Immediately Willowpaw's gaze softened, and her eyes clouded.

"Are you Willowpaw?" Nightkit bopped her on the nose. Then Willowpaw started to cry but only a little bit.

"Yes."
"Why are you crying?" Flurrykit put in insensitively. Amberpaw's eyes flashed in anger. Featherwink better put her in her place, or I'll do it for her! But Willowpaw didn't seem to notice.

"I'm just so happy about you guys!" She wiped her face with her arm and wrapped her tail around the two kits. "Wanna play a game?" She asked.

"Y-"

"I think that they should meet the Clan first," Featherwink mewed quickly. "Bring Toadstar in," she whispered into Snaptooth's ear.

He nodded, quickly getting out of the medicine den. Amberpaw waited a moment, thinking about Poolpaw. She told me to meet her tonight. What does she want to tell me? Will I be able to? My paws are full with these new kits... and something's happening with Rainstorm. Recently he's been doing... well, nothing! It's up to me! She panicked.

Why haven't I been more worried about him? And... well, I guess it's normal for Pinepaw not to talk to me... but he isn't talking to anyone! She took a deep breath and sat down as her father rushed into the den.

"I'm here to meet some kits?" He grunted. Featherwink dipped her head, sitting up and lining up all four of her kits. Then she flicked her tail on Skykit's ear.
