CHAPTER 23 - Amberpaw
Amberpaw barked a laugh. "Cherrypaw you're insane!" She wheezed, trying to compose herself.
"What? I mean, Snaptooth is pretty annoying right?" He asked cheesily. Amberpaw coughed, and Twix looked down, trying to hold in a laugh.
"Well Amberpaw isn't going to do that for you," he pointed out, still trying to smother his laughter.
"Yes," Amberpaw chuckled. "As much as I want to, I'm not going to shove deathberries down anyone's throat," she mewed.
Cherrypaw shrugged. "I guess we're just two different cats..."
Amberpaw didn't even notice Twix turning red until he burst out into laughter. "TWO DIFFERENT CATS CHERRYPAW???" He stumbled to keep balance as he laughed.
It was super and infectious and suddenly all of them were laughing. Even Amberpaw needed a tree for balance as she laughed. Once things slowed down and everyone was scanning the clearing for thyme again, she sighed.
"Y'know, I'm not too thrilled about staying an apprentice but I'm very glad I'm stuck with you guys," she told them quietly.
They both smiled at her. "You bet, Amberpaw. I enjoy your company too," Cherrypaw mewed sweetly. Suddenly Amberpaw felt a warm feeling spread through her pelt. She had friends! Finally. For the longest time, she was alone. Maybe staying an apprentice was the best thing that had ever happened to her.
Only spending time with Maplespots and Poolsplash got a little old. She was finally... with other cats. Not just two. Having cats in her Clan that she liked having fun with was a gift.
Amberpaw's shoulders sagged. "But-but Rainstorm, I don't believe in StarClan. Going to the Moonstone would do nothing for me!"
Rainstorm just rolled his eyes, and in that eerie voice that didn't sound like his own, he groaned. "Amberpaw, do what I say! Maybe you'll be granted a brain at the Moonstone, too!"
She just sighed and padded out of the medicine den with the traveling herbs in her mouth. Once she made it out of camp, Appletail was sitting outside with his hackles lifted and his fur bristling.
"Where are you going?" He asked.
"To the Moonstone," Amberpaw replied, bracing herself for the cascading waterfall of questions that the reddish tom would ask.
"Why are you going there? Do you finally believe in StarClan? Were you sent? Do you have permission? Did you ask Toadstar or Splashtail? Are you-"
"STOP, STOP, stop. I'm going there because I was asked to go there by Rainstorm, telling me that Toadstar asked him to ask me if I could go to the moonstone," Amberpaw explained quickly, before another 4,000 questions could jump out of Appletail's mouth.
The red tom dipped his head and stepped aside, letting Amberpaw make her way to the sacred stone.
Amberpaw finally made it to Hightstones. They were like teeth biting the tall, tall sky. It was incredible. And what was more was that the closer she crept towards the dark tunnel, the more cold wind whipping at her fur. It was the obvious choice for StarClan's meeting grounds.
Once her paw pads found the jagged stone she shivered, suddenly wondering how she was going to walk any longer on the rock. It was like fire scorching her paws.
Amberpaw felt herself being pulled in by the cave until she found herself in a clearing. And in the middle... was the stone. THE stone, bathed in moonlight.
