"Isabella? Why are you guys here?" My father asked, I eyed Xavier, who was already looking at me.

We both stood in the middle of the living room, three men with large rifles also eyed us wearily. There were only two options in this dilemma. Either tell my father the truth.

Hey dad, oh nothing you know.... the usual young adult activities....

I cringed even trying to come up with that excuse. That option was completely out of question so my only other option was to lie.

And I was so damn good at that.

I sniffed a little, making my eyes watery. "We tripped and fell over, Xavier was carrying me because I had fallen asleep as Helena's house and I got startled so he fell while he carried me!"

"And look, my ankle is swollen!" I cried, pointing at a rolled ankle I had gotten from chasing one of Helena's kids. I saw my father physically sigh as he rubbed his hands over his face.

"Why didn't you head home?" He asked, now pinching his nose bridge and tiredly looking at me. "Do you see how ridiculous I look? The changing shift was about to happen and half of the pack would've seen him carry me around looking like a fool"

He nodded, signaling the guards to step out of the cabin. Before making his way toward one of the barstools in the cabin. He looked at Xavier with tired eyes. "Please wrap her foot and ice it before you head back to the palace, and please always answer the walkie"

Xavier bowed and agreed with my father's request. I kept on sniffing as Xavier carefully picked me back up and sat me in a high stool next my father. "I'll have her home in ten minutes sir." Xavier respectfully said, he made no eye contact with my father or me as he disappeared into the kitchen to get some ice.

He was back to bodyguard mode.

"Hey, you okay?" My dad asked, I nodded while bitting the inside of my cheek guiltily. "I'm okay just a bit tired and embarrassed, I lost track of time helping out with the kids and dinner."

My dad chuckled, "What are you embarrassed for, nobody would've looked at you weird" He patted my head while my cheeks warmed at my precious actions. "Dad you made it seem like I was doing something inappropriate"

Which I was

He rubbed the crease between his brows, giving me one last look before letting out a big sigh, "I know sweetheart, I was just worried and he's always so good at letting me know what's going on I thought something happened" I looked down, guilt eating me alive. We both turned to look at Xavier who had a bag of ice in his hands.

My dad sighed and stood up, "I have to head back, I'm meeting up with Alpha Knight later on today, I have to get my stuff ready since I'm meeting him at his pack and staying a couple of nights"

I frowned, he usually told me way ahead of time if he ever did engage in anything. "I'm sorry I couldn't tell you, it was just arranged a couple hours ago, he's been having issues with rouges. Er.... I'll keep you posted with any info we gather"

I nodded, watching as he left Xavier's cabin. I knew my father had issues giving me the rundown of everything, after all I was just his daughter, I could see why he didn't want me to know, but it was also my duty as his daughter and heir to the throne.

I was brought out of my thoughts by Xavier's warm hands picking me up from the stool. His eyes avoided mine as he picked me up. He had wrapped the bag of ice around my foot, but his cold demeanor seemed to burn me more.

I bit the inside of my cheek to keep me from asking what was wrong. I knew what we had done was wrong.

Lying to my father was wrong.

Kissing him was wrong, even that statement made my stomach turn, I knew relationships between a high rank and a low rank were always looked down upon. Not that he was a low rank official, but he was my bodyguard, in the eyes of the public it would seem as abuse of power.

Relationships? Would Xavier even want a relationship with me?

I closed my eyes and breathed out. I needed to stop thinking about that before I cried.

Crying is not good. It shows weakness, it shows that whoever made you cry has the upper hand.

And I was not going to let him have the upper hand.

"Put me down, I can walk" I said, very-aware at the calmness of my voice. He stilled for a second but still kept walking with me in his arms.

I could see the tightness in his neck and his tight breathing. The motherfucker had the audacity to be aggravated.

We reached the castle in no time. The guards on duty all tried not to look at us, but if you'd seen the princess disheveled with a bag of ice wrapped around her foot, you'd also stare.

"Good morning!" One of the cheery guards said, but Xavier nor me said anything. He continued walking with me in his arms until we reached the top floor containing our room.

There he slowly placed me down in front of my bedroom door. Without a word, I walked inside, feeling as silly as ever with the ice bag still on my foot.

I wanted to scream and rip my door of its hinges. But without his touch I felt more collected.

He'd pay for making me feel the way he had. For making me feel sweet things and then pushing me away. For lying and for being so.. so cunning.

How can you kiss someone and be so cold afterwards?

How can you say all of those things?

Was this his plan all along? To have me fall in love with me and then push me away?

Xavier Freyja would meet his fate with me. By the Gods I swear it.

I will be his doom.
