chapter one;

„I CAN'T BELIEVE you two got the babies before me!" Kushina whined for the third time.

Mikoto and Hikara laughed at the pregnant woman, both of them keeping an eye on the few months-old babies behind the crib.

Shisui was the one babysitting them, but the mothers didn't trust him with this. Missions? Sure, Shunshin no Shisui. Toddlers? No, but thank you.

„Do you think they'll all be friends when they grow older?" Hikara asked hypothetically, as the eight years old made silly faces at them, „Y'know, like us."

„Of course they will, Hikara-chan," Mikoto smiled gently at her longtime friend.

„Yeah, they'll be best friends," Kushina agreed with enthusiasm, before a mischievous smile made its way on her lips, „maybe one of them will fall in love with the other."

Mikoto blushed brightly as Hikara scoffed, „Hah! No, my baby will grow up perfectly innocent," then she grumbled her breath, „It's bad enough that Kakashi doesn't know when to stop reading those books."

They all turned their attention back to their children when the Uchiha's boy started crying loudly, throwing himself away from the girl.

Shisui looked panicked, „I looked away for a second, I swear!"

They sighed.

„I don't think you have to worry about Sasuke," Mikoto giggled after a moment.

TWELVE YEARS LATER...

IT WAS DAYLIGHT IN KONOHA gakure. The sun was shining brightly through the window of a small apartment, hitting straight at the figure who was sitting on a chair in his kitchen peacefully, looking through a file of documents for the team he was unfortunately stuck with.

There was a moment of silence where the birds piped happily on the warm summer morning and Kakashi relaxed into the seat.

"PAPA?"

Almost immediately, it boomed through the walls. He could hear a crash and a whoosh, and he tensed once more. His head snapped up just in time to watch his twelve years old daughter rushing down the stairs with her shoe in her hand, desperately trying to shove her foot in.

He raised an unimpressed eyebrow at her, "Shouldn't you be in the academy already?"

She grinned at him innocently, "Aw, don't be such a hypocrite, papa. You know who I got it from." She looked down to see her foot finally in the shoe, "definitely not from mama."

Kakashi sighed. There were days where he wished she wasn't so much like her mother, always so upbeat about everything, so happy and so unbearably sarcastic that one might want to strangle her if one wasn't her father.

But then again, he didn't want her to turn out like him either. He didn't know if her heart could handle that.

Naomi was generally a very bubbly person. She was the kind of girl who could make a S-rang criminal wear a flower crown. And she usually got along with anyone that seemed remotely nice to her and to her loved ones.

There was no doubt she was a people person, a good one with a ridiculously golden heart for her circumstances. When she told him she wanted to be a shinobi he was a bit hesitant.

It had taken for her to tell him her reason for him to enroll her in the academy.

„Papa, I want to be a shinobi. I don't care what you say, what if you go on a big mission and don't come back?! And— and who will protect Hinata-chan when she doesn't stand up for herself? I have to be strong enough to protect you both!"
