"I called you several times, but you didn't answer." KC crosses her long arms across her chest.
I resist the urge to roll my eyes.
"Sorry," I mumble.
"Where were you?" She insists. "I left the house for a couple of hours, came back expecting dishes to be washed, but they weren't. And then I tried calling my daughter, but she intentionally didn't pick up-"
"I am not your daughter," I snarl, narrowing my eyes at her. "I'd kill myself if there was even an once of blood that we share coursing through my veins." Being related to you would be like feeding myself to snakes.
KC pulls her lips into her mouth and takes in a deep breath.
"Don't you see how KJ turned out? He's perfect-"
"Oh, shut up!" I practically shout. "What did my dad ever see in you? You're a delusional little bitch!"
KC draws her head is faux shock.
"Don't talk to me like that. You may not like me but that doesn't mean that you can just treat me anyhow!"
"What did you come here for? All the perfume is making me sick."
KC looks at me and I just feel like smashing her head into the wall. When I first met her, I saw how happy my dad was with her, but I felt sick to my stomach knowing the way she acted when she wasn't around him. He seemed in love, but do you really know what love is after you've mixed it with something else once already? KC is tall, and pretty, and very smart, but she's also a two-sided bitch. She feeds off of people's distraught. Like some high school chick who's mental function is clogged from all the hair dye. She acts like a child, sometimes, and it's just so annoying.
And the worst part is, my dad will believe anything she says.
He just thinks I'm making things up to get him to divorce KC because I don't like her. No, I don't like her, but I don't necessarily report to him because I want them to split up. I know how devastating that would be for Steven and especially little KJ. But I hate that they're together.
If only my dad would put some of the knowledge he put into his work into his family life, too.
"I need you to watch over KJ on Friday," KC finally says, smiling to herself a little bit.
"Can't," I quickly answer. I planned to go to a job interview for the beauty parlor downtown. I know my parents don't want me working, but me and mom's eviction deadline is coming up fast and I don't want us to be on the streets or even in dad's house broke. I don't want us to completely depend on him.
"I wasn't asking you, Loni," she says sternly and quietly, flipping her perfect brown hair. "I have a meeting a couple hours away in northern California, your father will be at work, and Steven has a soccer game."
