Gerard's POV

School parking lot.......

I pull into the school parking lot and find a spot towards the back. The breaks stop with a loud screech as I put it in park. I squint at the following eyes as I ride by the people in the parking lot. God, I really need my own car.

"Okay Mikey. You ready to do this?" I say to my brother with a sigh.

He doesn't respond, though. He continues to stare out the passenger window as if he didn't hear me.

"Mikey c'mon, I know you're pissed at mom and dad about the move, but we literally don't have a choice." I say trying to make eye contact with him. He chuckles in response.

"Oh yeah sure, and I'm pretty sure mom and dad have our best fucking interest at heart." He says sarcastically.

"Look, Mikey. I don't wanna be here anymore than you do. If it was up to me, we'd still be in Jersey-"

But before I can finish talking, he opens the door and starts grabbing all his stuff from the backseat.

"You fucking say that but are asking me to cheer up about it. Get fucking real Gerard." He says. And with that, he slams the door behind him.

I sigh getting my own stuff and finally getting out of the death trap.

It's true. The move was really sudden. One day we're getting ready for a crazy summer with all our friends from Jackson High, and the next we're all packed up moving to California. You could say it all happened in a blink of an eye. And my parents gave neither I nor Mikey any kind of warning about it. Our lives changed ..... so quickly.

Not all for nothing. My dad was starting a new job at a financial firm, and my mom would be relocating her salon to L.A. They both needed to for better business, more money, that kind of thing. I will say, we have it pretty good compared to most people out here. Cost of living is a bitch these days.

Thats why I try to stay positive. That had always been me for my parents. You could say I keep it together pretty well for someone that keeps so much inside. But Mikey.... Mikey was the wild card. If he has something on his mind, he'll say it. And if he's feeling something, he'll really feel it. He's always worn his heart on his sleeve. We've always been different in that regard. But he's been through a lot, so I'm patient with him about it.

We both walk in unison to the front doors. I had to admit, it's a nice place. Way more pristine than all of Jersey ever dreamed of being.

We both stand in the entrance room crawling with students. There had to be at least hundreds of them. Jackson High barely scratched 700 students. You'd be lucky if you saw a new face anywhere. Here, it'd be an everyday thing for sure.

"Well, I guess this is where I leave you." I say awkwardly. Mikey's arms were folded as he stood still staring at all the new faces.

He honestly looked terrified.

"Can't you walk me to class or some shit?" He says quietly. I groan at him. I really didn't wanna be late.

"Mikey, you're 16, I'm sure you can handle finding your own class." I respond dryly.

"Fine, fuck you." He responds bluntly. He starts to turn to walk off, but I grab his arm.

"Hey." I say. He looks over at me with a side eye.

"Be your fucking self. If anyone bothers you, they deal with me. Got it?" I tell him, pointing to his chest. He slowly nods in response with a dead pan stare. And with that, off he went.

I sigh to myself. I loved Mikey. Which is why I'm so protective over him. But at the same time, I really wanted him to spread his wings. He had such a personality. He can be funny as hell sometimes. Bubbly even, when he wants to. And people deserve to know that side of him.
