Arabella//
1988 - 5:30 p.mIt was the summer of 1988. I was sitting in the front seat of my Honda. The leather on the seats burned to touch, the hot California sun beating down on me, small sweat droplets formed on my forehead. I put the key in starting it up. I wiped the sweat off my forehead and took a deep sigh. Another summer day wasted, I thought to myself.
You see I didnt exactly have many friends at my high school, the few I had , were my best friends. I understood why, I was labeled as "goody two-shoes" or "smarty". I am mostly quiet, I keep to myself. I find more joy in books than anything else. I was also very clean; I've never done anything bad in my life, (except that one time I got a B on my Chem. Quiz).
I have brown hair with soft curls, that is long, it goes down to the middle of my back. My eyes are dark green, with sparks of hazel in them. I am about 5'3 , with a small frame.
Oh, and my name is Arabella. But people call me Bella, or even Bells.
Anyways, I was headed off to the bookstore, like I do everyday , I buy a cup of tea and maybe a small pastry and sit down. This is how my summer goes, every day.
I sighed, pushing back my hair behind my ear, then getting so fed up with it, i put it up in a scrunchie. I rolled down the windows since the AC was broken, even though the dense summer air did not seem to feel any better.
I turned into the small parking lot. I walked towards the door, feeling the sun beating down on me, practically every move I took I felt like a melting snowcone.
I stepped inside, pulling down my skirt , and adjusted my hair.
I walked over to where the new releases were, found a couple books and kept looking around.
I spotted a boy with dirty blonde hair, about 16 or 17, in a black hoodie and black jeans. He had shades on, covering whatever color his eyes were. He seemed frantic, almost in a hurry. I didnt let it bother me and continued to the small record section they had, picking out some of my favorites.
I then turned around, happy with what I found, and started walking out of the aisle, before I reached the end, the dark figure shouldered me, causing me to drop all my records and books, a few even smashing.
"Holy shit, I'm incredibly sorry." I heard the boy say.
I was on the floor picking up the remaining shards of a record I had found.
"Its-Its okay." I managed to say, although I just broke something I could not pay for. I didnt even bother looking up until he kneeled down putting his hand on my shoulder.
I looked up as he took off his shades revealing his baby blue eyes. You could get lost in them.
I immediatley snapped back to reality when he said "Are you alright?"
My eyes blurred a bit before I realized. "Oh um yes, yes. Im so sorry , I should have been paying attention." I said looking into his eyes.
He looked sympathetic, then chuckled a bit. "You? I should have watched where I was going. Don't worry about the records either, I'll pay for it all. It's my fault anyways. I also owe you a cup of tea, Care to join?" He smiled so bright, the world stopped for a moment.
"That would be lovely." I smiled standing up.
"I'm Corey , by the way, Corey Haim."
His named sounded so familiar, but nothing rang a bell.
He gave me a certain look, like he was expecting me to freak out.
I put out my hand to shake, " And I am Arabella. But you can call me Bella. " I smiled reassuringly.
We walked over to the small cafe in the bookstore, sitting down as he ordered two cups of tea, green tea, and chamomile.
He looked towards the window, then quickly put on the hoodie and shades.
"Is everything alright?" I said.
He looked back over to me, cleared his throat, and ducked down a bit.
"Yeah, I just dont want someone to spot me." He chuckled nervously."Is someone after you?" I laughed a bit.
He lowered his voice a bit , "Well , something like that. " He then motioned me a "Shh" and put his head down.
I heard the bookstore door open, then close. Overlapping of voices is all I heard until they left.
Corey put his head back up and took off his shades.
I brushed it off not wanting to sound nosey.
"So, tell me about yourself." I said smiling as a barista set the two cups of tea on the table.
He sighed a bit then continued , "Well I am an actor, I mean, I love acting-"
I zoned out for a moment when an imaginary lightbulb dinged over my head.
I was sitting across from the Corey Haim.
