Terra Via,
I know about the church you were in, and why. You're strong, too strong. We like that.
She read the words written over and over again. Dissecting each word, each centimeter of the paper. There were no stains, no tiny words, there were only the words she read over and over again. She counted the words, hoping to find any hidden meaning. Nothing. No hints, no leads, no whys.
Terra was clueless. She had no idea who knew about the hellhole church, and what they wanted to do with that information.
We like that.
What could they have meant?
Eventually, the young girl felt herself gasping for air, looking everywhere she could, grabbing her wrist that held the letter and making blood drip. She may look calm, but if anyone saw her shaking body, it would be clear she was frozen in fear. Then, suddenly, the paper changed. Droplets of water were hitting it. Sadly, Terra knew why. She was crying. She was shaking so much even knowing it wasn't cold.
"Why?" A smile began to grow on the girl's face and she started laughing as tears fell like a waterfall. "Why? Fuck. Why? Is this because I cursed you?" Her grin and laughter turned into a frown and weeping.
"Is it because of my curse? Why did you curse me? Do you even exist?" She spoke quietly to nobody but herself and the sky, hoping for a response she knew wouldn't come.
"I'm sorry. Just please, let it burn. Let it all burn." She continued to cry just as a familiar smell reached her nose. Fire. The paper was now being burnt to a crisp.
Terra's eyes jolted wide and she spoke frantically. "Stop! Stop burning!"
Then, the fire quickly extinguished itself with her words, only leaving half of the paper. She could trace it back with her curse. She knew that if she used her quirk, Terra could find out exactly who and when, and where the letter was typed. But, her power was too dangerous and she needed time before she did.
With eyes that looked like a star, now looking like a zombie, Terra dragged herself up and into her room. She closed the door, not bothering to use her quirk on it. She turned the lights off, put the paper on her desk, laid down on her bed, put blankets over herself, and closed her eyes. Sleeping it off was her plan. Maybe she would wake up and the note wasn't there. Maybe she would wake up and be in the church. Maybe should wake up and be in a different body, home, and have a different life. Maybe, just maybe Terra wasn't Terra. She could be Danny, Hailey, Farrah, or anything but herself. She'd have any other quirk other than her own. Her Word may sound like a dream power to have, but it's far from it. It's scary. As the saying goes, "With great power comes great responsibility". And she had great power.
As she expected, her alarm clock rang, and Terra got up. She didn't sleep. She turned off the alarm clock, and like a zombie, she moved her body around to do her morning routine. She brushed her teeth, showered, put on her uniform, dried and brushed her hair, she put her hair up in her messy half-poney tail, and grabbed everything she'd need in a day. But, today, she added one more step. Look at the paper.
It was the exact same. Half of it was gone with only the words being shown.
Terra Via,
I know about the church you were in, and why. You're strong, too strong. We like that.
She hated the words printed onto a piece of paper. It might as well have been telling her that she's going to hell. And, against her emotional wishes, Terra stuffed the letter in her uniform. She didn't want to look at it more, but she needed to.
