Chapter 3: 

Brain Freeze!

3rd POV:

Shuichi and Kokichi seemed to talk for hours on call. Shuichi knew he had work but he didn't really mind. It was nice being able to chat with someone so freely. There weren't any awkward moments either. Sure, they both would get silent from time to time but it didn't feel weird to either of them.

"So, Shuichi. I feel like we should get to know each other a bit more." Kokichi suggested, breaking the silence and trying to start up a new conversation. Shuichi looked up from his cat and looked at Kokichi. "Oh, yeah. We have been on call for a while, and we don't know much about each other." Shuichi responded, agreeing with Kokichi's suggestion.

"Okay, ask me something about myself and I'll answer and then you tell me something about yourself." Kokichi said, tilting his head.

"Alrighty. Um. Why'd you dye your hair purple?" Shuichi asked, that was one of the first things he noticed about Kokichi, and he was a bit curious about why to say the least. "Oh, Um." Kokichi didn't expect that question, he dyed it as a way to hide his identity but that didn't help out a lot. He had to think of a lie quickly.

"Well, it's my favorite color and I always wondered what I would look like with purple hair, so I dyed it and here's the result! Isn't it pretty?" Kokichi smiled, dramatically tossing his hair back. Shuichi chuckled. "Yeah, it looks good on you." Shuichi said with a warm smile.

"Thank you, I know it does!" Kokichi said, confidently. "My turn to ask! Since we're on the topic of hair. Why'd you dye your hair blue?" Kokichi asked, leaning back on his headboard. "Oh, well one of my friends convinced me to dye it since they were already dying their hair." Shuichi said, looking to the side. It was Kaito that dragged him along to dye his hair. "What's your natural hair color?" Kokichi asked, almost immediately after Shuichi finished his sentence. I guess he had that question planned out.

"Oh, uh black." Shuichi responded, yawning after his sentence. "What about you?" Shuichi questioned. "Oh, uh dark brown." Kokichi said, mocking Shuichi. Shuichi rolled his eyes and faked a laugh. "Soo funny." Shuichi said, leaning on his headboard. Kokichi smiled and shrugged. "Well, my turn to ask a question! Why do you wear a hat?" Kokichi asked.

"Oh, because I have trouble with eye-contact. Which is kind of ironic since I work as a detective. I'm usually expected to look criminals in the eye." Shuichi sighed, no longer looking at the screen but now looking down at his hands.

"Hey, don't get all depressed. That's kind of the same reason why I wear a mask. I have trouble speaking to people in person." Kokichi said. He obviously was lying but he didn't really like the gloomy look on Shuichi's face. It made him feel bad.
