"Caw! Caw! That way!" Kanzaburou, Tomioka Giyu's crow, cawed. Giyu had just finished his last mission. It was really easy, but now he's lost. He slowly walks down a cliff. It's easier to walk because it's morning but also harder because it's snowing. Suddenly he hears a male voice screaming. He runs down to see a young red-haired boy being pinned down by a female demon wearing a baby pink kimono. He pulls out the sword and runs. He pounces onto the demon, but the boy pushes her away just in time as he dodges himself. His hair's cut, but that's not the main problem as of now. The boy and the demon roll around until they hit a tree. The demon child shrinks. Giyu then faces them with a dull expression. "Why are you protecting it?" he asks.
"She's my sister! She's my little sister!" The boy replies, with a scared look. Giyu stays silent as the demon tries to escape the boy's grasp. "Nezuko!" The boy yelps. Nezuko seems to be the demon's name. "You call that thing your sister?" Giyu quickly dashes toward them at an amazing and inhumane speed as the boy ducks, only to find his sister gone from his grasp. Instead, she's in the hands of the Water Hashira, struggling to escape.
"Nezuko!"
"Don't move. My job is to slay demons. So I'm going to have to kill your sister."
"Hold on!" The boy says with a desperate look in his eyes. "Nezuko hasn't killed anyone! Back at my house, there was a scent I'd never smelled before! That's the one that killed my family! Not Nezuko! I don't know how this happened, but-" He's cut off by Giyu's explanation. "It's simple, really. Because her injuries were exposed to demon blood, she transformed into a demon. That's how the man-eating demons multiply." Yet, the boy still argues. "Nezuko would never eat humans!"
"You're kidding, right? Just now you were about to be devoured."
"You're wrong! She knows who I am! I won't let her hurt anyone! I swear to change her back and save her!" Giyu sighs. "That's impossible. Once you become a demon, you can't go back."
The boy pleads and begs even more. Giyu looks down. If that had happened to his sister as well, he would do the exact same thing. But he's gotta be strong. Tsutako's already dead. There's no changing that. It's fate. Giyu thinks. He summons up the courage and yells. "Don't give others a chance to murder you! Stop that pathetic begging! If it was the least bit effective, your family wouldn't be dead right now! You're a weakling! How can you ever heal her, huh? Hunt down the enemy? You're making me laugh. The weak have no rights or choices! They are crushed by the strong! No one will respect your wishes! Topic-wise, I have no respect for you either!!" He lies. As much as it pains him to say it... he has to.
"That's reality! Why did you throw yourself over your sister- was that your way of protecting her? Why did you not swing your hatchet and show your back to me? Those mistakes led to your sister's capture!" He faced the tip of his sword toward the boy as he cries. Giyu is having a hard time, as well.
Don't cry. Please don't be sad. Now's not the time. You're devastated, I know. Your family was massacred and now your sister's a demon. Painful, right? I know you want to scream. I get it. If only I'd gotten here sooner. Your family probably wouldn't have been dead. But you can't turn back time. Feel the rage, it will be your need to take action! If you are this weak, how can you ever protect your sister? Or get revenge for your family!
He stabs his blade into Nezuko's chest. The boy continued screaming. After a little bit of fighting, he notices that the boy is a battle prodigy and that his sister really is protecting him, and decides to send the sibling to a trainer known as Urodaki, his former teacher.
