Today was like every normal day; wake up, join the family devotion, take care of house chores, bathe then come down for breakfast. My lips parted into a frown and my shoulders dropped low, my life had got bored of this annoying routine.

"Nkem, what is wrong with you?" Mom asked.

"I am fine." I twirled my fork in my spaghetti.

"You are not eating."

"Mom, I am fine. I am not just hungry that is why."

"Nkem..."

"Haven't you heard her!" Father banged the table. "She said she is not hungry so why are you now making a fuss out of it."

"Dear, I am sorry."

"In fact, I am no more hungry." He pushed himself out of his seat. "I will be taking my leave."

"Are you not taking Hadassah to school?" Mom said.

"Come on, She is not a baby anymore, she is 19 for crying out loud." He gave Mom a quick kiss and headed to the door.

"Where are you..."

"Bang!" The slammed door was his reply.

Tears stung my eyes, but I fought it, there was no way I could tear up on my first day back at school.

"I am sorry Nkem, he'll come along just wait."

A part of me wanted to negate her answer.

"Don't..." Holy Spirit cautioned.

I picked up my plate of already cold spaghetti and stood up.

"To where?"

"I am done eating."

"Hadassah, will you sit down and finish that food now? You have been dodging food nowadays and I wonder what has gotten to you. If it is not fasting, it is no appetite."

I hit the plate on the table before sitting.

"I wonder what your brother will think of you when he sees how bony you have become."

"Mom!"

I hated it when she insulted me concerning how I looked. I know I was far from beautiful.
