Chapter 8: old acquaintances part 1

"I thought you were dead-"
"Is that what they told you?"
From the corner of her eye, peri saw more rebels, but they were armed and wearing masks that blocked out the frequency.
"What happened to you?" Wisteria's voice quivered for a moment. Desperateness glimmering in her eyes and slipping out of her mouth in the last second. A laser was shot at them both from behind. rebels had spotted them, and they didn't seem under the influence of the noise. The agates both ducked for cover against the repeated shots. Wisteria's rose again, but with the painstaking advantage rush that was the frequency flooding her ears once again. A sudden hissing sound nearby couldn't even compare to the noise going on all around. The impact might as well snuck up on the gems, and scarlet didn't hesitate. She rushed for the ear pieces that wisteria had dropped. She swiped them away and was about turn away.
"Scarlet?-" wisteria was just about to grab hold of her, when a forceful explosion went off. The shock pushed everyone back.

White noise rang. Dust and debris clouded her vision. Blurry figures in the distance that she wasn't entirely sure were actually there. Peri blinked slowly, not entirely grasping what had just happened. The ringing in her ears drowned out the shots and cries around her. She quickly adjusted her lose ear pieces before sitting up. When the dust cleared, peri watched pairs of feet ran past. Then, Wisteria, laying on her side, still as stone. Far behind the fallen agate was a blurry, blood red figure. Scarlet.

"Wisteria!" She called out. Periwinkle rushed to wisterias side, checking her gem.
"Cmon get up- we gotta go!" The small pearl shook the agate by her shoulders, prompting wisteria to wake. Peri gave a relived sigh, and stood up with her agate. She watched her with worried but hopeful eyes.
"I remember the way out. I believe it is the middle hallwa-" SMACK. peri's body flew across the floor. Wisteria's great strength made her swipe at her seem effortless. Peri winced and groaned. She slowly pushed herself off the cracked tile floor. The girl gazed up at her once gentle friend, who now, was stiff and still, and quiet. Her mind seemed to buffer in that moment.
It seemed peri couldn't comprehend the fact that her Agate had struck her. Then her mind finally caught up to her. A thought that only the deepest gut feeling could tell her for the first time.
Something is wrong.

"W-wisteria?"
The agate turned. This new..foreign rage setting in just as silent as she was. The woman picked up her rejuvenator. The bulky, triton like electric weapon that could reset the memories and personality of any gem. It was a fate that many gems fear.
Peri quickly scurried back, realizing what the frequency had done to her friend. A quick glance to where the red agate used to be, showed that they had fled. It only took two seconds for wisteria to swipe at peri with her heavy weapon. The pearl thankfully dodged it, summoning her bow, and preparing an arrow to take aim. She knew it was not likely wisteria would come out of this monstrous mindset with the constant ringing of the rage inducing noise, And it was clear the building's radio system was malfunctioning somehow. But why?
Periwinkle shakily shot at wisteria. Her pastel arrows only impaling the minor areas aimed, like arms and legs. But it didn't do much to the giant. The holo arrows merely bounced off and despawned into tiny glimmering partials that soon diminished.
Before she could reload, she was swiped at again and fell backwards. She almost heard the sound of her head smacking on the ground.

Peri hit the cold shiny floor. The tip of a sword barely meeting her face. Breathing heavily, peri looked up at the holder of the sword. Her duel partner, caramel pearl.
Clapping arose all around the two from the crowd of pearls.
"Bravo caramel pearl! And a very good try to periwinkle!" The nacre clapped. Caramel de summoned her sword, lifting her head up with a smirk plastered on her face. She didn't offer a hand to help her partner up, because why would she?
Peri shaking her head, got up on her own.

"Why must you always be like that caramel?"
