The world had quickly gone to
shit in just 6 weeks.

The young girl, Nadine, and I had been bouncing from place to place as most were either overrun or Raided of everything.

We had been walking through the heavily wooded area for hours now looking for any kind of shelter.

7:34

Read the slightly rusted watch.

I wasn't completely sure if the time was correct but seeing as the sun started to disappear behind the clouds it seemed just around that time.

A large huff left my mouth as I tried to keep Nadine from falling off of my back a small cabin came into view.

Vines covered the roof as were the stairs, some of the windows were cracked, seemingly from someone throwing rocks through them.

Quickly scrambling to the cabin I lightly pushed open the door making sure it was clear of any roamers.

The space was pretty secluded, the farther we'd walked through the forest the less of the undead we'd come across

It was quite cozy if you didn't think about the horrible things outside.

Setting Nadine down, I quickly nailed some of the thick blankets I had found over the windows.

It was nice, with an old wooden table, a comfortable living room with a large selection of books just atop the fireplace, and a vinyl sitting on a side table.

There was even a small bedroom and bathroom, it was too good to be true.

But I'd rather take my chances here rather than anywhere else.

4 weeks later...

Me and Nadine had made the small cabin our home, planting some vegetables and setting up alarm systems made of old cans and string.

It was like any other day, I was hanging wet laundry on the washing line as Nadine was playing with the soapy water.

Looking back at her, a warm smile came to my face.

It was nice to see her finally smiling, not crying or scared for her life.

Just being a kid.

"Turtle bear, you hungry?" I said, wiping my damp hands off.

As we had gotten closer the sweet nicknames I'd call her just kind of stuck.

Nodding her head and quickly ran to the kitchen to wipe her soapy hands.

"Let's go out and see if we can find anything," I say, Grabbing a basket from under the sink, and slipping on my shoes.

making your way through the different bushes, picking small mushrooms and other berries we could find.

The sound of something harshly plummeting pulled you towards the scene, Nadine following closely behind.

Peeking down the big opening, a scruffy-looking man came into view.

He was knocked out cold.

With an arrow stuck in his side?
