Chapter 7

****************************************************************

So here I sit on the ground as Dietz hovers over me with a wicked grin on his face. For a second I full considered using magic and turning the jerk in to a human Popsicle. But of course I can't do that because it is forbidden to use magic on anyone not causing you harm or is a threat, well, maybe this situation counts as a threat. Then I saw the muscles in his shoulder tense and his hand knot into a ball. Knowing that the punch is coming I stare him down instead of listening to the part of me that wanted to roll up like a pill bug and beg for mercy. He cocks his arm and lunges for my face, it takes every shred of will power I could muster to not break our eye contact. To my surprise his fist stopped a centimeter from my face.

I look at him quizzically as he leans back and opens his hand leaving it outstretched towards me. He gives me a genuine smile and says "take it wizard boy." I swing my arm into his and he pulls me up off the ground. All of his posse stands with their mouths open in shock at the events that have just occurred. "Don't just stand there catching flies, get lost!" Dietz yells at the other boys and they all scamper off in different directions.

"So Mr. Special, what brings your royal ass to our humble town?" Dietz asks elbowing me playfully. "There is a war coming." He nods in understanding "I just have to pick up these two annoying wizard kids to be trained at my home." "Hey, I know an annoying wizard kid who might need to be trained to have better manners!" Dietz said laughing at his own joke. "And I know an annoying blacksmith kid who's daddy needs to teach him some manners." I said quickly jumping out of Dietz's reach and running down the busy street with him on my tail.

I darted in and out of alleyways that I had never been down, laughing and whooping with Dietz, who had given up chasing me and now ran next to me screaming along with me. Eventually we ended up next to town hall bent over gasping for air.

"Let's hang out on Tuesday, meet me here at 4!" he said clapping me on the back before running back the direction that we had come.

I took me a minute to realize what had just happened but I smiled the most stupid smile when I finally did. I had just made my first friend.
