it was odd for the girls, usually having to resort to behaving as anti-feminine as possible to be taken seriously in their line of work. they didn't all have a lot to hide, as some of them weren't very feminine anyway. but they all had that one stereotypically feminine activity they loved to indulge in, regardless of what it was. and it was a shame that usually, this had to be hidden.
so it was interesting to be in the presence of a male player, during the only privacy they had as a group of girls hidden from the public eye.
while they fought to prove they belonged in a male-dominated sport, those girls secretly loved being girls too. they revelled in the sheer, stereotypical femininity of how they gossiped and giggled while doing their warm up paces and stretches.
and jules koundé, despite being a man; was not excluded from the gossip. but he mainly just listened and observed, not wanting to disrupt the vibrant female equilibrium with his 'stupid man opinions', as aline had once called them.
"what are you doing this weekend, five? lucy and i were thinking of finding some sort of lowkey concert to go to, if you wanted to come?" keira called out after aline, who was busy picking up cones.
"i'm so sorry, i would have loved to, but andré's coming to visit this weekend. i haven't seen him in a while, i'm super excited." aline gushed.
jules' ears perked up. 'andré'? that wasn't a name jules was familiar with.
"oh my god, no that's fine!" lucy grinned. "i know you're a quality time kinda girl."
"yeah he's been away way too long with work. it's weird being away from him for so long, i'm not used to it." aline laughed. "you know men and their inability to communicate and make plans, walsh."
keira rolled her eyes. "nah, he always makes time for you."
jules swallowed nervously. whoever this was, seemed to be exceedingly important to her. and for some inexplicable reason that was unknown to even jules himself, he decided he couldn't listen to anymore. so he put his hands in his pockets, and jogged away to join the other group's session instead.
"what's up with him?" keira frowned, pointing at jules' retreating back.
aline turned towards the direction she was pointing in. "koundé? what did he do?"
keira cocked her head to the side. "i don't know. he walked away all grumpy."
"oh," aline giggled. "he's always grumpy. that's just jules." she shook her head, somewhat affectionately.
"that's just jules, is it?" keira raised an eyebrow. "i wonder what andré will have to say about that when he visits."
aline threw a cone at her torso. "shut up. i know all my players well, don't be crass."
