First day of Stars Hollow high school.

Dragging herself out of bed on time was shit, Luke already being up was a surprise for Jules whose past high school record hadn't exactly been great.

She liked school, moderately. She thinks she'd like it more if it started later, and so didn't have a stellar attendance record back in New York. Normally, she would have to wake herself up for school as her mom was never much help and being awoken by an adult figure with breakfast on the table was strange.

Jess was out before her, probably for a smoke, while Jules ate a quick breakfast and skated to school silently.

She wondered what friends (if any) she would make today. Wether she would have to suck it up and sit with what she imagined boring, sheltered kids from this place were like. Or if she could find anyone willing to have a little bit of fun with her.

Her thoughts immediately went back to Sam when thinking about friends. Could she consider him a friend? He was a whole year older than her, Jess' age, and she only spent about half an evening with her at most. Even though he said he'd see her at school last night, he could've gathered his wits and realised he didn't want to befriend the sixteen year old Jules.

He probably had his own group of friends, who wouldn't want to have to babysit some new younger girl.

But she would get over it. He was just a boy, after all, it wasn't like there was much special about his except for the fact they had a common interest.

When she made it to the school, seeing all the other kids gathering and walking in to the large building she tucked her board under her arm and headed in.

After asking a group of kids (who practically looked like perfect poster-children for any school) directions to the front desk she managed to gather a list of her classes for the day and decided she probably shouldn't be late on the first day.

The school was small, compared to her last, and the kids seemed a lot more well behaved and welcoming. People actually waved at her in the corridors, and smiled when they caught eye contact with Jules.

She remembered in her last school, in was a bustle between classes. Kids shouting, fighting, running, pushing - teachers chasing and punishing and trying to calm down the wild corridors. Nobody smiled, or waved at you. Everyone stuck to themselves and that's how they liked it.

It was like an alien world.

"Ah, Miss Mariano. Please, class, welcome our new student Julie Mariano." Her new English teacher, Mr Larson, smiled at the group as he placed his hand welcomingly behind her.

"Jules is fine." She corrected, as she awkwardly gave a polite smile to the man.

"Sorry, Jules Mariano." He corrected as the class repeated 'Welcome Jules' in a sea of monotone voices. "Please, take a seat next to.. Miss Edwards." He directed to the back of the class, next to a window and a smallish looking girl.

She nodded, awkwardly and made her way to the back of the class silently, ignoring the curious glances. Placing her bag on the floor, she made a slightly glance towards her and didn't expect the girl to talk to her so quickly.

"Where you from?" She half-whispered, sceptically, as if she wasn't exactly trying to hide the fact she was talking when she clearly wasn't meant to be.

Jules sighed, it was like she was some exotic animal.

"Manhattan."

"Oh cool, I have an aunt from Manhattan. I visit her like once a year, when she's not off with her batshit crazy boyfriend." The girl picked at her nail, Jules raising an eyebrow.
