~Emily ~

Later after I got out of the shower and did some work from school that I missed online, I facetimed Kat, Devyn, and Tara to tell them what happened between me and Colby. "Guys, I think I like someone...." I said nervous and excited. "Oh snap"?! Kat asked screeching in excitement. "A boy"?! Tara asked. I rolled my eyes. "Oh, please obviously a boy"! I spoke. "who"?! they exclaimed. "Colby." I confessed. "eeee"! Devyn squealed falling over, Kat and Tara both gasped shocked in concern. "What was that"?! "Dev"?! they both said at the same time. "Are you ok"? I asked. "Yea, yea sorry I'm fine." Devyn said getting up. "Well, can't say I blame you Em"! Kat said. "That is so crazy, Colby never does stuff like that for anybody"! "Really, I thought he has something going with Shae"? "Psh, girl please, they broke up a long time ago, the only reason Shae does that is for the attention." "I guess that's true, but legally we couldn't even be together even if we wanted to." Tara rolled her eyes, "girl fuck that, all that shit is, is just old political bull crap. Think about all of us." I sighed, "I guess, but why does Colby hate vampires so much." Kat sighed. "His dad has been brainwashing him since he was little with all the political bullshit. Our boyfriends don't give a shit about all that crap. Colby is a sweetheart deep down, you've gotta get to know him." I sighed. "Would you guys be ok if I went for him though? I know he's like a brother to you guys." I asked concerned. Kat gasped. "Do you think we would act like this if we didn't want you to go for him, you guys would be so fucking cute"! "Exactly, you would have the cutest babies"! Devyn said. "Ok I guess"! I said excitedly. "So, you'll try"? Tara asked. I nodded and smiled. "woo"! they all said in unison. I heard a knock on my door, "Hey, I've gotta go, bye girls." I hung up the phone and went to my door and stood in the doorway, leaning my body against it. "Oh, hey Colby, what are you doing here"? I asked surprised and confused. He smiled. God, I love that smile. "Hey Emily, are you busy"? I peeked out from my door at him confused. "No? I'm not. Is something wrong"? I said as I put my hand on the doorframe. He chuckled and smirked. "No, nothing is wrong, I just realized, that we forgot to work on our project Friday night." My eyes sealed shut and I clenched my fist, putting it to my forehead. "Oh...crap, Colby, I'm so sorry I completely forgot." I said as I cringed in realization. He chuckled. "It's no problem, we've all been busy Em'." He said in an understanding voice. "We can work on the project now if you'd like." He pulled out a bag from behind him. "I brought food." I smiled and looked down. "Dinner"? I looked behind me. "Here"? I looked back at him. He chuckled. "Well, all my roommates have something going on with their girlfriends tonight and I didn't feel like sitting alone in my room in sorrow the whole night." He spoke sweetly looking down into my Violet eyes. I looked down at the bag and let him in, "I can't pass up Jersey Mikes what'd you get"? He walked in and set the food on my kitchen island. "Two chipotle chicken sandwiches." I smiled as I closed the door. "That's actually my favorite." "And I also got you a vanilla cream soda with crushed...not cubed ice." He said placing the drinks down on my counter along with two straws. I walked over and I looked up at him surprised. "How did you know that"? He smirked. "I might have had a little help." He spoke pulling the food out of the bag. "Was it Kat"? "Don't snitch on my sources." I giggled. Of course, kat told him, I wouldn't expect anything less. "that's actually your favorite"? Colby looked at me and smirked. "You have great taste." I chucked. "Jersey mikes is superior to any sandwich place." I said as we both laughed. "we're gonna get along great." He spoke as I blushed slightly. We finished eating our food the shortly after I heard a knock on my door. I looked over at Colby, "oh, sorry let me get that, that's probably my son." I could feel Colby's shock as I went to the door. I opened the door to see Owen's friend's mom holding Owen's hand. "Oh hi Mrs. Finley, how was Owen today"? I asked. "Oh, he was an absolute angel, you've been raising him right." "Aww thank you." "Well, we would love to stay and chat, but Riley has a lot of stuff to do at home, we'll talk soon dear." She said with a sweet smile. "Ok, thank you have a good night." I walked in as I picked Owen up and swung him around in a circle on my hip. "mommy"!! smiled at him beamingly. "Hi love, how was your day"? he was ecstatic with joy. "It was so much fun, me and Riley played hide and seek, and we even played tag"! He said happily. I smiled at him. "That sounds like an amazing time, is Riley nice"? He nodded. "Yeah, and she's really pretty." He said blushing. He looked over at Colby nervously. "Mama, who is that"? he asked nervously. "Oh, Owen this is my new friend, Colby." I said walking over, introducing the two. "Hi Colby, it nice to meet you." Owen said shyly. Colby smiled at him sweetly. "It is so nice to meet you, Owen." Colby said smiling shaking his little hand. I looked back at Owen. "Have you eaten"? he nodded, "yeah, me and riley had PB and J at Ms. Viviane's house." I smiled. I checked my clock and saw that it was 8:30. "Ok then, how about you go get ready for bed, I'll come tuck you in in a minute." He smiled as I kissed his forehead. "Ok." He said as he ran off into the bedroom to get his Pajamas on. "he's a Sweet kid, you've done a good job raising him." I smiled "Thanks. He's not my biological son, he was an orphan on the streets and I took him in. I love him with everything I have." I said as I smiled. "I think that's really brave of you to do that, it's not easy." "I wouldn't change it for the world." I said looking into his eyes before clearing my throat awkwardly. "Anyway, should we start on the project"? "Uh sure." "I've actually started to write down a rough draft for the project if you want to look at it"? I said refocusing the subject on the English paper. "Sure, let me see the paper." "Ok." I said handing him the paper. He looked at the rough draft and smiled and nodded his head in satisfaction. I glanced up at him. I smiled in confused. "What is it"? "Nothing, your just really good at writing." I looked up shocked. "really"? I said surprised. He nodded his head. "Is writing a hobby of yours"? I looked at Colby confused and at a loss for words. I placed my hands on the edge of the countertop leaning hunched over. "Yeah...why"? "This paper is resilient." "Aww, thank you." I said looking up at him smiling. "I'm gonna go sit down and start...uh... working." He said awkwardly. I cleared my throat. "Yea...uh... good idea." We made our way to the coffee table area and sat down on my rug and propped our backs up on the couch. I began to write about Elvis. I looked up a couple minutes later to ask Colby what he was writing his paper about. "So, how's the writing going"? he looked up at me "honestly I have no idea what I'm doing, here, here's what I have so far." He said showing me that paper. I looked at the paper and saw that he drew a hilarious photo of a goofy looking monster. I looked up at him and we made eye contact for a second before we both started laughing. "Well, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that this is an English project, not an art project." I said sarcastically. He chuckled. "I know." Colby said. "I'm just not very good at writing. I'm more of a science guy, I'm into history, ironic considering...." I giggled. "I don't think that's weird at all. I actually think that's really cool." I said sweetly touching his hand slightly. I cleared my throat. "Oh... sorry." I said nervously. "It's ok." He said gently looking at me. "I could give you some pointers on your writing if you like. I mastered the TSI English essay." He nodded his head. "Wow, that's impressive." "Thanks, what do you need help on"? "I just don't understand the concept, I know the prompt, but it's just a little confusing about what we're supposed to write about." "So, the project is pretty much about how you can relate the emotions changing throughout the relationship between Elvis and his wife Priscilla." "Ok, I know that." He spoke. "The book is about her relationship with Elvis and how it changes over time, just think back to a time when you felt that same feeling, feeling of loss and vulnerability. Feeling of knowing that you can't change a person even though you think you need to. Channel that emotion into your writing." He looked away solemnly. "Well... there's one person." I sighed, "tell me about it." "Ever since I was very young, my father was always very stern with me, seeming like he didn't care. That's why I was so close with my mom and my sisters. He was negligent and always disregarded how I felt." "Do they live around here"? he shook his head. "No, my whole family lives in Kansas, that's where I'm from." "So why did you move out here"? he sighed. "I just needed to get out on my own and be who I wanted to be without my dad constantly controlling me." "What do you wanna do"? "I've always wanted to own my own business." He said sadly. "Do you miss your other family"? he nodded solemnly. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to pry." I put my hand on his back and looked into his eyes as they met mine. I saw a different person in him that I had never seen before that moment. He looked so venerable. He slowly started to lean in like he was going to kiss me. "Mama"?! I sighed, "hold on I'll be right back." I walked into my room and saw Owen waiting for me to tuck him in. I sat down on the edge of the bed next to his head and started to play with his soft, black hair. "Can you sing for me"? I nodded and began to sing a song that I came up with "goodbye." Within seconds he was passed out, so I covered him up with a blanket and kissed his head. "Good night." I said as I cracked the door. I sat back down on the couch next to Colby. "Hey sorry, Owen just wanted me to tuck him in." I said as I yawned and stretched. He chuckled. "it's ok, you're a great mom." He said taking my hand that was resting on my thigh, brushing my knuckles with his thumb. I blushed slightly; his hand were rough, but he was so gentle. How could a person so muscular be so soft and sweet? "Why don't you tell me a little bit about yourself"? He said interested. "Oh, now you wanna know about me"? He chuckled. "Sure, you seem pretty interesting, especially those beautiful eyes of yours." He said leaning in closer. I smiled sweetly. "Well, the project isn't due until next week, so I guess we still have some time." I said smiling excitedly. He made his way onto my sofa and motioned for me to sit next to him on my couch. I hesitated but then smiled. I laid on my side and faced the tv. I just started to vent about everything. I felt like we talked for an eternity. We both ended up falling asleep on each other. I wondered how our interactions changed almost overnight. I thought that he hated me. I guess I was wrong.
