Together, they delved into the past, piecing together the events that had led up to the fateful night that had changed Dyuti's life forever.
"How about we call Aditya?" Meera suggested and that clicked me.
Aditya! Aditya Shekar! Of course! How could I forget Karan's best friend? He was there when Karan dragged me to an empty classroom.
Dyuti's heart raced with anticipation as Meera dialed Aditya's number. After a few rings, he answered."Hey, Meera. What's up?" Aditya's voice was calm and collected as if he hadn't been expecting their call."We need to talk to you about something important," Meera said, her voice serious. There was a pause on the other end of the line, and Dyuti heard Aditya take a deep breath." Is this about Karan?" he asked. Dyuti's heart skipped a beat. Aditya knew something."Yes," Meera said firmly. "We need to know what happened that night in the empty classroom." Another pause. Dyuti could hear Aditya shuffling around, as though he was uncomfortable." I don't know if I can talk about this," he said finally.
Dyuti's stomach dropped. She had been so hopeful, but it seemed like Aditya wasn't willing to share anything. But then, Meera leaned in and spoke in a hushed tone.
"Aditya, please! Dyuti and Karan are married and now it is creating havoc in their lives!"
They needed to find out what had happened to Karan.
After a few moments of silence, Aditya let out a heavy sigh. "Okay," he said finally. "But you have to promise me that you won't tell anyone else about this."
Dyuti and Meera nodded while Aditya sighed.
"The day before, Karan fell ill! So, his parents sent his twin brother, Arun! It was him that day! He threatened us that if we stop him from what he was doing, he will make our lives hell!"
Dyuti's heart dropped for at moment.
"But Karan, got to know about this, and he destroyed him completely! He is no more!" Aditya said.
Dyuti's eyes widened in shock as she listened to Aditya's words. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Karan, the quiet and reserved boy who always kept to himself, had killed someone? It seemed unbelievable. That too, his own twin brother.
"He died in a car crash! Karan didn't plan it! It was drunk and drive!" Aditya said and Dyuti looked relived. Karan didn't do it after all.
Aditya then said , "Dyuti! Don't get mad at him! He loves you! He gave you a special place in his heart. He is really nice, just possessive! But he would never kill someone!"
As Aditya spoke, Dyuti's heart sank. She had accused Karan of something so heinous without even giving him a chance to explain. She felt guilty and ashamed of herself. How could she have been so quick to judge someone she cared about so deeply?
"I have to speak to him!" Dyuti said, "Thank you for everything! I need to apologize to him first!" She said and cut the call.
Dyuti's mind was in a turmoil as she rushed out of the door, leaving Meera behind. She had to find Karan and apologize to him. She couldn't believe that she had accused him of something so terrible without even giving him a chance to explain. She had to make things right between them.As she got into her car and drove towards Karan's house, her mind was filled with thoughts of him. She remembered the way he had always been there for her, the way he had held her when she needed it the most. She knew that she couldn't lose him, not after everything they had been through.
Suddenly, her phone started to ring, an unknown number. She parked the car and attende the call.
"Hello? Mrs.Desai?" the voice chirped from the end.
