Maya POV
"You are ready to leave?" Doctor Uncle asked, entering the cabin with his usual warm smile.
"I am so ready," I replied, happy to leave the damn hospital room after a week. "But please, don't give me any more advice. I am sick of it," I groaned, knowing he would give me another earful, which I don't want to listen to right now.
"Fine. I won't, but I hope Neeya will change your mind," he replied. I snapped my head toward him.
"How do you know Neeya?" I whispered in shock.
"Well, you chanted her name all the time when you were unconscious. Is she that special?" he asked me, raising his brow.
"No one," I mumbled, facing the other direction. I don't even know why she is always on my mind.
"Maya, don't push away the people around you anymore. By the way, I want to meet this Neeya," he said with humor in his voice.
"Dream on," I muttered. I may not see her again. She might have already forgotten about me. After all, I am a stranger to her. My eyes filled with tears as doctor uncle left me alone with my thoughts.
Neeya POV
I was sitting in the class-room, thinking about stuff and enduring the gossip about Ms. Stanley, our anatomy lecturer, who is returning from her vacation today.
"Morning, class." I heard the teacher's voice before I looked up to see her face. At first, I was shocked, and then, it turned into joy. God! I never thought I would see her again when I returned empty hearted from her house for six respective days. And now, she is standing before me in the class-room as my anatomy teacher.
"Whoever didn't complete the assignment I gave you last week, get out of my class." Her voice brought me back to reality. Five students who didn't complete their assignments stood up and grabbed their bags. I kept looking at them as they left the class-room one by one. Wait a second, I didn't complete my assignment as well! Fuck. I didn't even know there was an assignment.
I stood up and went to her. And said, "Ms. Stanley, I am new here, and I didn't know there was an assignment. Can I..." She cut me off before I could defend myself.
"How long have you been here?" she asked me. Her voice was as cold as ice. I didn't expect that from her. I swallowed hard.
"A week?" My answer seemed more like a question to me.
"You have been here for about a week, and you didn't ask anyone whether there was a task or not?" she asked again, more harshly this time. Well, I did ask some of them. But their answer was kind of like, "Who cares about that bitch's class?" "Oh, come on. I don't even want to remember her face, let alone her class." Now I can't exactly say these words to her, can I?
"No, mam."
"Is it my fault that you haven't done your assignment?" She asked me sarcastically. I shook my head. "Then get out of the class. Don't waste my time anymore," she yelled at me in front of the whole class. I grabbed my bag and left the class, lowering my head. My eyes filled with unshaded tears, not because she scolded me in front of the entire class but because she didn't recognize me a bit. Did she forget about me?
I waited outside for her. Maybe she acted as if she didn't know me in front of the class. Maybe she will talk to me if no one is around. But my hypothesis was wrong. After the class ended, she exited the room and passed by me as if I wasn't there. And I shamelessly followed her behind.
"Ms. Stanley." Her steps halted as I called her from behind. I jogged to her. "Ms. Stanley, don't you remember me?" I asked her, hoping she would take the hint. She frowned.
