Neeya POV
We were snuggling into each other when her phone rang, and it was Grandpa.
"Hey, old man, how are you?" Maya cheered, answering the video call.
"I am fine hearing your voice. It sounded more lively than ever. I guess you are fine right now. Aren't you?" Grandpa commented.
"Better than ever," Maya answered with a chuckle.
"And the reason is me!" I squealed, jumping in front of the camera. Maya and Grandpa both burst into laughter. Grandpa already knew me, as I had forcefully introduced myself to him one week ago.
"Hey, isn't it my little granddaughter?" Grandpa gushed. And I showed him a victory sign, pressing my face against Maya's. "Alright, alright, I am coming back, girls," he informed us.
"Really?" We both shrieked in excitement. I told Grandpa everything about how I managed to earn the title of Maya's little sister. He was so excited to meet me in person. And after a lot of chatter, we ended the call.
I looked at Maya. She had already fallen asleep while talking to Grandpa. After all, she was exhausted. I kissed her forehead before switching off the light and snuggling into her. Tomorrow will be a new start.
Maya POV
Neeya was dragging me along with her from one ride to another. She brought me to an amusement park. According to her, it's a celebration of her first day as my sister. We had been wandering around since morning. We ate ice cream, took pictures, rode horses, and so on. I had never had so much fun in my entire life. I've never laughed so much.
Even though I started to feel tired, I couldn't say no to her excitement. I know at some point I need to go back to my miserable life. But for now, I only want to enjoy it as I wanted to.
"Maya, what happened? You spaced out?" Neeya asked me with concern. I made her worry again, even though I didn't want to.
"I am a bit thirsty. That's all," I told her, avoiding the topic.
"Then, you should tell me so. You sit here. I will bring water for you, okay?" she told me, pointing towards the bench, and ran in that direction without waiting for my response. This girl loves to run. I smile to myself, thinking about her.
It's been a long time since she went to fetch water. I wonder what happened. I stood up and began to look for her, and suddenly someone pushed me. I closed my eyes, ready to accept the impact. Seconds turned into minutes, but I didn't feel anything. I opened my eyes only to find that one pair of twinkling blue orbs bore into mine.
The guy was tall and muscular. He has a handsome face with a long nose and a sharp jaw. His strong arms were keeping me from falling.
"Are you alright?" he asked me, removing his hands from my waist.
"Yeah, thank you," I blurted out. Come on, Maya. What were you doing? Drooling over a stranger! I masked my expression and looked around to find Neeya.
"Are you looking for something?" he asked me.
"Yes. I was looking for my sister. She was gone for a long time and hasn't come back yet. And she isn't answering my calls," I answered. He chuckled awkwardly.
"What a coincidence! I was looking for my brother as well. Do you think he ditched me for some girl?" he joked, trying to cheer me up. I laughed at him. "If you don't mind, let's find them together," he asked me. And somehow, I agreed with him. We were walking side by side, looking for them. "Well, I am Ved—Ved Sullivan," he introduced himself.
