The Son Of Bruno Madrigal

An Apology

I begin climbing up the roof with the help of casita. I look down and see Camilo and Isabella trying to get to us but their gifts just... disappeared.. 

"Eddie!" He looks down to see Mirabel.

"I gotcha!" He grabs her hand and pulls her up.

"MIRABEL! EDDIE! LEAVE THE CANDLE!" They hear Julieta yell before everyone was pushed out of casita. They turn their attention towards the candle. As Mirabel tries to grab it she slips but Eddie catches her and casita helps him lift her so she can grab the candle. Once she grabs it, Bruno's tower falls, causing the duo to jump off. Luckily casita caught them and slid them down the stairs.

"Mirabel watch out!" Eddie shielded her with his body as casita surrounded them with doors, shelves, and really anything to protect them. Once the smoke cleared they looked at the candle, the flame went out. "Mirabel! Eddie!" Julieta ran over and dropped to her knees, cupping Mirabel's face with her hands and examining her then looking at her nephew who just stood there. 

"Are you two alright?!" She said frantically. Eddie slowly nodded, Mirabel said nothing.

"Julieta!" "Stay right here you two." "JULIETA" "coming!" She stood up and left. When she came back, they were gone.

"Eddie?! Mirabel?!"

"Eddie wait! Slow down!" Mirabel was chasing Eddie who ran through the forest, she stumbled a couple times and ended up tripping. When she stood up her cousin was no where to be seen. "Eddie.." Mirabel became teary eyed. She began walking, she didn't know where to, she just did. She stopped at a river and sat there.

-We goin' back in time a couple minutes for this!-

"Eddie wait! Slow down!" He heard his cousin call out to him, he just kept running. Eddie didn't look back, even when he heard the thud of her tripping. After a couple minutes he came upon a clearing. It was a grassy field filled with flowers, when he turned around he saw the forest from which he came and the outline of the mountains, similar to the nightmare... He was far from home.

Eddie's eyes begun to sting with tears. He stood there crying before dropping to his knees and sobbing. He screamed as loudly as he could, letting all of his build up anger, sadness, and frustration go away.

"¡Maldita sea! ¡TODO ESTO ES MI CULPA!" I screamed. My throat burned and I could barely see but at this point I didn't care. "Todo es mi culpa, nunca debí haber nacido, es mi culpa que mamá haya muerto y mi culpa haya sido todo. ¡Si no hubiera sido un desastre, tal vez nada de esto hubiera sucedido!"

(English for ya'll who don't understand: It's all my fault, I should've never been born, it's my fault mom's dead and my fault that everything happened. If I wasn't such a screw up then maybe none of this would've happened!)

I screamed at the top of my lungs again, after a couple minutes I just rolled into a ball, the only thing to keep me warm was my ruana...

-Time skip to the next day like in the movie-

"Eddie! Eddie!!" I heard a faint voice calling out to me. Suddenly I was being shaken.

"AH-" "Eddie! It's me!" I looked at the figure, once my eyes focused I could see who it was.. It was Dad!

"Papa..." I cried, he pulled me into a hug and held me tight.

"Oh mi hijo... Are you ok?!" He cupped my face with his hands. My eyes were puffy and I was covered in dirt, leaves, grass, and debris.

"No.." I managed to say. Bruno pulled me into another hug, I held him tightly. I missed his hugs and when he would comfort me, it felt good to be held again.

Eventually after a while I fell asleep, sleeping outside on the cold hard dirt after a day like yesterday will do that to ya.

-POV CHANGE: BRUNO MADRIGAL-

I noticed that Eddie had fallen asleep, poor boy... I lifted him up and carried him to the horse I used to get here. Surprisingly, he was extremely light, lighter than me.. I need to have a talk with him about that.. Anyways, after making sure he was ok, we left. I still needed to find Mirabel, and I think I know exactly where she was because I believe passed by her while looking for him.

Eddie stirred in his sleep. "I'm so sorry Mijo, this isn't how any kid should grow up. For now on, I'll be right by your side. No more running." I whispered. 

I see Mami (Alma) and Mirabel standing up next to the river, I try to approach quietly but the horse got spooked by something. I held onto the horse and Eddie, making sure neither of us fell off.

"She didn't do this! Woah, woah!" I yelled as we flew through the bush, landing in front of them. "She didn't do this! I gave her a vision!" I said as I got off the horse, my food ended up staying on the side of it so I did my best to make myself look brave. Eddie was still laying on the horse but it didn't seem to mind. The horse moves over a bit and I fall on my face.

"It was me!" I put my hand up, "I was like go-" I spun around as I stood up, "-And she was like "phff"," I walked towards them. "She only wanted to help. I don't care what you think of me but if you're too stubborn to-" Mami ran over and hugged me tightly. "T...t..to." I stuttered.

"Brunito" she said. "I feel like I've missed something important" I said slowly as Mirabel walked over. 

"Ugh, papa?" Mami let's me go and I turn around, seeing Eddie get off the horse, but when he did he fell over. He must've sprained his ankle. 

"Careful!" I ran to him, helping him get up. "You might have sprained your ankle. Be careful hijo." I let him lean on me. Mirabel ran over and hugged him tightly.

"Where were you!?" She pulled away from the hug, shaking him a bit. "Ow, Mira.." he muttered. "Oh sorry! But seriously though.. why'd you run off?" He didn't respond, he looked over Mira's shoulder and his face looked liked he had seen a ghost. 

"Lee? You alright?" I took him from Mirabel's grasp. 

"Eddielo I'm so sorry..." Mami walked over, he tried taking a step back but fell over.

"Careful!" I helped him back up, he held onto my arm tightly, I could tell he was scared, but of what? Or.. who? Then I remembered, she had smacked him.

"Mami... why did you hit him?" I asked, turning towards her.

"I'm sorry, I understand now that I shouldn't have shut you out, even when you needed me.. please forgive me." She took a step closer.

I looked at Eddie and he shook his head 'no' before burying it into my shoulder. Mami sighed, she knew she had to make it up to him. 

"We should head back" Mirabel said.

"But there's four of us, and only one horse. We can't all fit on there." I pointed out.

"I'll walk. I'll give Eddie his space." Mami said.

"Are you sure?-" "Yes Brunito, I'm sure." She assured me it was fine. After getting Eddie back onto the horse the four of us made are way back to casita, well, the ruins of casita.
