On the previous chapter...

What was I thinking?

Pull yourself together Madeline, you need to read the last letter

I can't read it. Even after 14 years I was afraid of the truth.

Everyone told me that my whole life was a lie, I now realized that's the only truth I've been told. I knew at this moment that everything I believed in or saw was never really here.

I believed that I didn't kill my family and the 8 men did and so did you.

I want you to keep fighting as you normally do.

Keep fighting.

The words of Mauricio keep wondering in my mind.

I took one last deep breath. 'Do it for Mauricio'. I say

I walked up to my desk and opened the last letter.

Madeline's POV

To my sweet little Madeline,

I know that you just watched the cd. And I know that you may be confused. I'm going to tell you everything you need to know.

Your whole life is a lie.

I kept it a secret from you, I knew how much it would break you. It's better that you found it out now. I want you to know that I'm sorry for you, so sorry. I wish I could take all you pain away.

I know how much you love your family and your dad. You would always tell me stories about how great your dad was, that he was your protector, but my sweet naive little Madeline, he isn't. Your father was the devil in disguise. Once he found out that your mother was pregnant with a girl, he didn't loved her anymore. He saw her as a mistake. He kept on blaming your mother, he abused her verbally and physically. But once she was pregnant again, but with a boy this time, he was happy. He stopped abusing her and instead he kept saying nice things to her and spoiled her.

Then he realized that he was stuck with you, so he needed to get rid of you without killing you. And the best way to do that in this world, is to sell your daughter. That's exactly what he did. At that time he worked for the Italians and he knew if he would tell Armando this, Armando is going to like him much more. So much that he became the right hand of him.

The plan was going as he wanted. He wanted to get as close to him, that he could betray Armando and take his position. He wanted the world to know his name. Armando didn't know this and died thinking that he was a good man.

He fouled the whole world, just as he wanted.

But it didn't take long. You did a good thing killing your dad. Don't blame yourself for killing him.

Your mom and brother were innocent though. But I'm not here to guilt trip you.

Your mom wanted to divorce him for a long time, even before she was pregnant with you, but she was to scared. She was scared of the man who she married. She loved you and didn't want to sell you, but she had no voice. She couldn't speak up.
