Mabel sighed, looking herself over in her full length mirror. She had been given a beautiful navy dress by her fathers in preparation for the gala. Her platinum Blonde hair was curled and framed her face in just the right way. She was lean with small breasts. Angular features that sometimes made her look as imposing as the beta she was supposed to be. Mabel thought she looked good but still her heart was heavy. She sighed as she moved away from the mirror to find her matching pair of flat shoes. Heels just didn't suit her and she was grateful that her dads knew enough of her taste to give her flats. Slipping them on Mabel turned towards her bedroom door. It was time for the party. It'd been three days since she and her dads had that talk and she was taking a leap of faith. Her destiny was waiting for her she just had to be brave.
Putting on her most convincing fake smile Mabel left her room. Walking down into her parents living room her smile turned genuine. Nicholas and Greyson in their matching suits with opposite ties. Embraced and slow dancing in the living room.
"Couldn't wait to dance hmmm" Mabel teased her parents, who only smiled back at her.
"You look beautiful Mabel darling" Her papa, Greyson gushed.
"Thank you Papa, you chose the dress well" Mable grinned back.
"Shall we head out, It's our annual pick fights with mediocre alphas who can't win and will throw a hissy fit night" Nicholas cheered as he pulled away from Greyson.
Mable giggled at that statement. But she knew her dad meant it. They just liked causing trouble and luckily neither the previous alpha Uncle Elijah and the current alpha Damon minded.
"Okay" Mable agreed and smiled again as her dads linked their arms with her and then they were on their way to the pack house.
Mable watched everywhere carefully as she let her dads lead her to the pack house and the dance hall that would no doubt be filling with people. They passed through omega village without really seeing any of their pack mates but closer to the other houses on the way to the pack house the roads were crowded. Mable spotted Harper and Justin patrolling in the woods just out of sight in their wolf forms. Sparrow and Elliot walking away from the pack house with their kids, Wulfrum, Suzume and Raven. Mable didn't really know the Delta pair but she still offered them a polite greeting nonetheless.
The Gamma couple, Isabella and her mate Aubrey were heading away from the pack house too with their adopted daughter Sevyan. Mabel smiled and nodded respectfully when she saw them.
"Good luck tonight Mable, sorry we won't be attending this little one needs her rest" Isabella spoke as they passed.
"Thank you and don't worry I'm sure the party will be fun even without you there" Mabel called after her friend Isabella.
The gamma simply turned and stuck her tongue out before Mable watched them walk back to their new house. Their daughter didn't do well with all of the pack yet. Scarred and half bind Mable really felt for the lass. Mabel was abruptly pulled out of her thoughts when they arrived at the pack house. Sneezing once to get rid of all the scents clogging her senses, Mable smiled apologetically at the doorman.
"Go cause some chaos, I'll be fine on my own" Mable leaned down to whisper in her parents ears.
Nicholas and Greyson looked back at their daughter, eyes conveying several emotions before they left her to mingle. Mable breathed in a long breath before letting it go. Steeling herself she made her way to the ball room. She weaved in and out of couples dancing and found her way to the drinks table. She stuck to the wall in relative cover as Damon and his mate Iris took the stage.
A hush descended in the crowd when Damon began speaking.
"Welcome Friends and allies to the yearly Frostfang gala, eat, drink, make merry and most of all have fun. As the newly appointed alpha of the Frostfang pack I bid you hello and hope our friendships and alliances will continue for as long as I may rein" Damon boomed, his voice carrying even though he wasn't shouting.
Mable joined in the cheering for her cousin, he truly was becoming an alpha her pack was proud of. The party went on for hours and Mabel drank sparingly but ate the food provided. It was good and made by professional chefs. A scuffle started on the dancefloor and Mable was unsurprised to see her dads fighting a wolf from another pack. Shaking her head as she heard the laughter from the other attendees Mable decided to get some fresh air.
Sighing as she stepped into the fresh air her wolf became alert. Hackles raised and growling in her mind. Mable continued on her way hearing footsteps behind her. The man behind her clearly didn't know how to stalk but he did have a cover on his scent. Irritation rose in her mind as her wolf gave out a warning growl. The sound was loud in the dark.
"Just concealing your scent isn't enough to sneak up on someone you actually have to have the skill for it" Mable teased as she found an open street illuminated by the moon.
She stood in a puddle under her feet from the recent rain. She kicked away her new shoes as she stepped into the water and pulled her long dress away from it. Twirling in place and kicking up the water she smirked as she spotted the man who had followed her. Lunging forward using all her strength she tackled him. Knocking the wind out of him with an oomph. Snarling at the man beneath her Mable bared her canines.
"Wait, please" He called out, words strained as Mable sat on his chest.
"Why, trespasser" Mable growled, anger contorting her features as she looked down at his boyish face and soft mouse grey hair.
In response his scent was unhidden from her.
