Hyunjin's POV

"let me explain to you shall we"

Chan said as he motioned for the clones to sit on the floor. he pulled out two chairs for us alone and motioned for me to sit as well.

"to answer why they aren't talking, they're clones. unfinished ones, but still clones. specifically ones from an alternate universe"

Chan said. i blinked incredulously. like, i know this is a unique situation, but how the fuck am i supposed to believe that there are clones??

"then why are you all here? and where's mine and
y/n's clone? i didn't see them"

i questioned further. this entire thing makes no sense.

"since these clones are unfinished, they cannot coexist with two people of the same DNA. since you're here, your clone can't come near you"

Chan sighed and explained.

"so then why isn't y/n cloned?"

i pressed on. i need answers. i don't know if they came from the system or not, so being careful is in my best interest.

"the workers 'broke' y/n's DNA. it got mixed up. when you have 9 people, mistakes were bound to happen. the girl won't have a clone until much later"

Chan sighed again, even heavier than earlier.

"oookay so why are you telling me all this? wouldn't this be against your clones or whatever?"

i asked. Chan laughed.

"i want you to work with me. you were never supposed to find this place, but you did, so might as well make the best of it right?"

Chan said while he smiled at me.

"and why would i work with you..?"

i'm starting to think this is just a dream. Chan's not this stupid.

"i'm certainly not picking you to work with me since you're smart you know"

he rolled his eyes. i glared at him.

"i just think since you know a ton, it would be useful for me right? you can go back and keep everyone in the dark while helping me hmm?"

he said slyly. the clones turned to us and stared silently.

"what is your goal?? why are there even clones?"

i said exasperatedly. all these questions i asked and i feel as if we're going nowhere.

"now that i can't tell you. but i've been observing you and i think you'd want to keep your friends safe, no? i mean of course you wouldn't want me to hurt the beloved girl you've had your eye on right?"

Chan said nonchalantly as he stared straight into my eyes. it made me sick.

"don't hurt her"

i spat as Chan looked amused.

"then work with me. i'll make sure she's safe if you work with me"

he persuaded with a gentler tone than before. it felt mesmerizing and soothing.

"but what about everyone else? i don't want to see them hurt either"

i said worriedly. this clone is cunning as fuck. it's only making offers to protect me and y/n.

"we'll see. if you please me with your work, that is"

Chan said as he snapped his fingers. the clones took off through another door.

"so yes or no? be mindful of what i can do to them"

Chan asked impatiently as he glanced out the door the clones just left in.

i thought for a while, or at least as long as he would allow. to protect them i have to become a spy, but i don't even know if i can trust this clone.

but then again, it can't hurt to trick him, right? i could always just pretend to help him.

"fine. just make sure to keep at least her safe if no one else"

i sighed with frustration. Chan smiled sinisterly, full of satisfaction on his face.

"pleased to hear it. i promise i won't do anything bad to your precious y/n. not a word about meeting me to anyone else you hear?"

Chan said warningly as he followed the clones through the door they went through earlier. he slammed the door shut and locked it.

i retraced my steps back through the doors i came through, and made my way back to the room.

i didn't see y/n along the way back. she probably already finished her thing with Felix.

i swiped the room key and entered carefully. Chan and Felix were both sleeping peacefully side by side.

they both have innocent and peaceful faces. innocent without a clue of what's going on. i sat in a chair by the giant window and stared outside.

i didn't see much. just the absence of human life and an empty parking lot. the sun was slowly coming up. by the looks of it, it was already 5 am.

"Hyunjin? when did you come back?"

i turned around quickly upon hearing a sleepy voice coming from the bed. Felix sat up slightly and rubbed his eyes.

"a while ago. you were already asleep when i came back. i woke up really early. get a little more sleep. we have to be up soon"

i said as Felix obliged and lied back down. i tried my best to be convincing, but it was hard to lie to the people that i've tried to protect. the people that have been protecting me.

we have no one else in this fucked up world besides us. and it hurts so much to just lie while being a fucking traitor.

it hurts.

and it hurts more because we're family.
