Author's POV
"My Lady, you called for me." A man in a navy blue suit, cap, and mask entered Lady Hellina's office. She observed the man awaiting her response. She clicked her tongue against her inner cheek, deep in thought.
Reaching into her desk drawer, she retrieved a file and handed it to him. "I want you to conduct a full background investigation."
The man glanced down at the file before taking it. He opened it and began reading.
"Han Y/N..." he read, looking at the attached photograph. Five pictures were inside; some secretly taken during her date with Jin. They gazed at each other lovingly in front of a church—the night he gave her the necklace. "Yes, My Lady. You can count on me," he assured her. Lady Hellina nodded expectantly.
She had high expectations of him, and she knew he would deliver.
"You're my best card, Daewhi. Don't disappoint me like Eunwoo did," she grimaced, remembering Jimin's defense of Eunwoo. Fools, she thought.
"I won't, My Lady."
With that assurance, Daewhi left. A female worker entered, carrying a medium-sized brown envelope.
"Report," Hellina commanded.
"My Lady," the woman began, handing over the file. Hellina opened it, revealing numerous stolen photographs of Y/N. "She's at a church with the prince."
The Lady smirked, turning to the view from her glass wall.
"Send the location to Daewhi."
She can smell blood already, she thought. Let's not beat around the bush.
...
"Enjoying the view, Your Highness?" Mr. Chung teased, watching the prince admire Y/N from afar.
"I could watch this forever," Prince Seokjin sighed contentedly. Damn, I could do this all day.
"She'll be the best woman in your life. Come on, just get married already," Mr. Chung nudged him. The prince looked at him with pride.
"We will," he said, looking back at Y/N. "I can protect her better," he added, glancing at the man beside her, Captain Kim. Fate is truly unpredictable, he thought.
...
"Are you trying to get on my nerves, Captain Kim?" Prince Seokjin grabbed him by the collar.
"Pardon, Your Highness?" Captain Kim was stunned. He tried to gently remove Seokjin's grip, but Seokjin pulled him closer, glaring intensely. This is very questionable. What has gotten into the prince?
"Think I didn't notice you've been spending a lot of time with Y/N?"
Captain Kim frowned in confusion. What is he trying to say? Perhaps the prince had misunderstood.
"Your Highness, I don't know what you're trying to say. But I have no ill intentions toward your relationship—" he tried to explain, but the prince cut him off.
"So you're saying I'm delusional about you being in Y/N's room for hours? What are you doing behind my back?" Seokjin yelled, tears welling in his eyes. He fought to keep from crying in front of Captain Kim. Fuck, I can't be weak!
"It's not what you think, Your Highness…" Namjoon tried to explain, but the prince wouldn't listen.
Seokjin was about to punch him when Namjoon interrupted.
"She's my sister!"
Silence filled the room. They stared at each other, wide-eyed.
"What…" Seokjin scoffed in disbelief, blinking repeatedly.
He's having a brainstorm.
"Y/N is my sister, Your Highness."
"You… you think I'll believe your lies? I'm not a child you can fool with fairy tales, Captain," Seokjin said, unconvinced. This only fueled his anger, as it did Namjoon's.
"And that's the truth, whether you believe it or not, you shithead," Namjoon retorted, forgetting he was speaking to the prince.
"What did you just call me?" Seokjin's face went blank.
"So a shithead is also deaf, huh?" Namjoon smirked, mocking the prince.
This is war. Seokjin lunged at Namjoon, but Mr. Chung intervened.
"Your Highness!" Mr. Chung grabbed him.
"Let me go! Move, Mr. Chung! This isn't your business! Let me kill this asshole—" the prince struggled, drunk and unable to fight effectively. He looked like a helpless baby flailing in his father's arms.
"Your Highness, you need to stop! This isn't good!" Namjoon tried to restrain him, but Seokjin pushed him away.
"Oh yeah? And what's good, huh? Calling me shithead?!" he yelled, reaching for Namjoon.
"Who the hell called you that?" Mr. Chung asked, and Seokjin's jaw dropped. Is he listening or what? Didn't he hear it clearly?
"This freaking Captain here said it!" Seokjin spat, glaring at Namjoon. Mr. Chung gasped dramatically.
"I'm just mirroring what's given to me. I don't mind if you treat me like shit, Your Highness. BUT NOT MY SISTER," Namjoon warned, his jaw clenched.
"SHE'S NOT YOUR SISTER," Seokjin insisted. Namjoon produced a flash drive.
"I CAN PROVE IT."
This seemed to sober the prince slightly. He stared intently at the device. What if Namjoon isn't lying? What if they really are siblings?
He admitted the striking resemblance between the two suggested Namjoon was telling the truth.
"SHOW ME THEN."
.....
"What…" Seokjin was speechless after seeing the information on the screen—Y/N's family background and true identity.
"Our family has an enemy. Our father was a top-secret agent on a mission… to hack data from a Clan. He was the only one who could do it. To get the data, he got close to the Clan and gained the boss's trust."
"Did he get the data?"
"He did, without considering the consequences. He put our family's lives in danger. Father hid the data on a flash drive in a safety vault. It wasn't an ordinary vault. He invented it, and it may sound stupid, but Y/N's heartbeat is the password."
"What kind of father does that to his daughter? How could he make such a stupid decision? Didn't he think of his family?"
"I don't know either."
"Does Y/N know?"
"No."
"Why didn't you tell her?! She deserves to know."
"She will. But for now, it's better this way. Our family history is too cruel for her. She's not ready. It's not the right time. She'll be in danger if that Clan finds out who she is. Yes, they're looking for her."
"Who's the boss of this Clan?"
"That, I'm still figuring out."
...
"You alright?" Y/N's voice broke through his thoughts. She stood before him, gazing at him softly, smiling. Her innocence radiated, and he didn't want that smile to disappear. "You seem lost in thought."
"I'm fine. Just thinking about our future." He pulled her close and kissed her.
"I'll go inside, want to come with me?"
"I'll stay here a bit."
- INSIDE THE CHURCH -Sunlight streams through the stained-glass windows of a grand church. Y/N, beautiful and serene, kneels in prayer. She’s dressed simply, her elegance understated. A single, delicate necklace that the prince gave her rests against her collarbone.
A black SUV pulls up silently across the street, not visible to where the Prince is. Two figures emerge: Daehwi, impeccably dressed in a dark suit, and another, less noticeable, in casual clothes. Daehwi is the epitome of controlled menace; the other, a shadow.
Daehwi watches Y/N, a faint, almost imperceptible smile playing on his lips. He signals to his partner, who nods.
The partner moves with surprising speed, disappearing into the church's shadows.
Y/N finishes her prayer, a peaceful expression on her face. As she rises, a hand clamps over her mouth, a rough cloth muffling her scream. Another hand grabs her arm, twisting it painfully behind her back.
It’s the shadow from the SUV, his face hidden by a dark hood. He moves with brutal efficiency, expertly silencing her struggle.
Y/N thrashes, but his grip is too strong. Fear floods her eyes, but she fights back tears. The necklace catches the light as she moves.
Daehwi remains by the SUV, his expression unchanging. He watches as the shadow emerges from the church, Y/N struggling silently in his grasp. He opens the rear door of the SUV.
The shadow shoves Y/N inside, her body hitting the leather seats with a soft thud. He slams the door shut.
Daehwi approaches the vehicle, his gaze lingering on the slight tremor in Y/N's hand, visible through the tinted window. He doesn't speak, doesn't need to.
The SUV pulls away, leaving the church bathed in the serene afternoon light, the silence broken only by the distant sound of traffic.
Y/N's eyes dart to Daehwi, a mixture of terror and defiance in their depths. Daehwi leans in, his voice a low, dangerous whisper.
"(Softly) Don't worry. This won't hurt... much."
His words are chillingly calm, a stark contrast to the panic rising within Y/N. She struggles against the restraints, but it's useless. Her eyes well with tears, but her spirit remains unbroken. The delicate necklace, a symbol of hope, is all she has left.
