In the days that followed their candid conversation on the balcony, the distance between Maya and Ace seemed to grow, mirroring the emotional chasm that separated their hearts. The wedding preparations continued, but there was an undeniable tension in the air, one that couldn't be easily dismissed.

Maya tried her best to maintain a sense of composure, burying her feelings deep within her as she focused on the practicalities of the wedding. The warmth and optimism that had once defined her seemed to wane, overshadowed by the cold reality of their arrangement.

Ace, on the other hand, remained aloof and distant, the mask of indifference firmly in place. His demeanor during their interactions was polite but devoid of any emotion beyond that of a business associate. It was as though he had retreated even further behind the walls he had meticulously built around himself.

One evening, as they sat in his opulent office, going over last-minute details for the wedding, Maya mustered the courage to confront the cold-hearted reality of their situation.

"Ace, do you really think this marriage will work without love?" she asked, her voice steady but tinged with vulnerability.

He glanced up from his paperwork, his eyes cool and detached. "Love is an unnecessary complication, Maya. This marriage is built on practicality and mutual benefit. Emotions have no place in it."

Her heart sank at his words, realizing that he truly believed in the coldness he projected. The man she had once hoped to break through to seemed like an impenetrable fortress, unwilling to let anyone in.

"But what about happiness?" she persisted, her voice trembling. "Don't you believe that happiness can be found in love?"

"Happiness is subjective," Ace replied dismissively. "It's a fleeting emotion, one that can lead to recklessness and vulnerability. I've seen firsthand the destruction it can cause."

Maya couldn't help but wonder what had hardened Ace's heart so completely. Behind his business acumen and icy exterior, there was a wounded soul that he refused to acknowledge.

"You don't have to carry the burden of your past forever, Ace," she said softly, her eyes searching his for any sign of vulnerability. "Love can heal and bring joy if we let it."

He looked at her, his eyes guarded, and for a moment, she saw a glimmer of something deeper. But just as quickly, it disappeared, replaced by the familiar detachment.

"Your idealism is charming, Maya, but it's not something I can afford to indulge in," he said, a hint of frustration in his voice. "I've made my choices, and I won't let emotions cloud my judgment."

Maya felt a mixture of sadness and frustration wash over her. She had hoped that love could thaw the coldness in Ace's heart, but it seemed that his walls were too high and too fortified to be breached.

"Fine," she replied, her voice tinged with resignation. "We'll continue with the wedding plans as agreed."Ace nodded, seemingly unaffected by her words. It was as though their emotions were playing a game of hide-and-seek, with both of them unable to fully express their true feelings.

As the days inched closer to the wedding, Maya found herself wrestling with conflicting emotions. Part of her longed for the love and connection she had once hoped for, while another part of her feared the pain that love might bring.

In the midst of this internal struggle, she couldn't shake the feeling that the cold-hearted Ace Montgomery was hiding something—a part of himself that he was too afraid to reveal. As the day of the wedding drew near, she knew that their union would be a far cry from the love story she had always dreamed of, but she couldn't help but wonder if there was a chance, however small, that the ice around his heart might one day melt.
