Melony grabbed Kurumi’s hand, and they blipped away. Meggy decided to go back to lifting weights while she waited. But just as she was about to open the door, Melony and Kurumi blipped back into Melony’s room, holding the phoenix eggs.Meggy turned around, and looked really dumbfounded. “Wait, wha- how are you back so fast? It’s only been two seconds!”
“Seriously? It took me three days to find the dang place where these eggs were kept, and after I got the first one, I just traveled to the exact same spot 100 years later to save time! And yet only two seconds has passed for you?!”
“Freaking time travel physics. No amount of movies will ever make it make any sense.” Meggy mumbled. “But hey, are you ready to revive our friends?”
“Ready as I’ll ever be.”
Considering the eggs only hatch at midnight, they had to wait a little while, and they both decided it wasn’t worth using Kurumi’s powers to skip just a few hours into the future. But at 11:50 p.m, they went outside and got the eggs ready. Melony was on one side of the castle and Meggy on the other, just in case the phoenix’s can’t be too close to each other.
On Meggy’s side, the clock was inching closer and closer to 12 a.m, and Meggy was a little worried. What if this didn’t work? What if she got hers and Melony’s hopes up for nothing? She decided to just wait and see what happened.
Finally, the clock struck 12. The egg started glowing in a golden aura, and soon enough it burst into the same phoenix that revived Auri a while ago.
“Please. Please bring Desti back.” Meggy whispered to herself.
Suddenly, the phoenix started turning into a huge ball of light that slowly lowered to the ground. Once it touched the earth, the light started dispersing, leaving behind the purple Octoling we lost so long ago.
“Wh-where am I? Wait, is this…”
Desti turned to see Meggy standing there with both hands cupped over her mouth. Tears started streaming down the former Inkling’s face as she saw her old rival standing in front of her.
“Desti? Is that really you?”Desti stared at Meggy in shock. Was she dreaming? It wasn’t until Meggy ran up to her and gave her a huge hug while sobbing that Desti realized: She was no longer in the afterlife. She was alive.
Despite Desti being as tough as she is, she couldn’t help but start crying herself. She hugged Meggy back, leaving both sobbing messes.
After a while, they separated. “Meggy, how am I alive? I know I died back at the island, but how am I-”
“It’s a very long story, Desti. I’ll explain it to you later, I promise. But right now, I just can’t believe you’re back.”
“Meggy, I never did apologize for being so hard on you. Can you please-”
“Desti, I could care less about that! After everything that happened, our petty arguments don’t matter. All that matters is that you’re back with us, okay?”
Desti just smiled. She couldn’t have picked a better rival, or a better friend.
Meanwhile, on Melony’s side…
The phoenix awoke from its egg, and Melony just prayed for this to work. Once again, the phoenix turned into a giant ball of light that lowered slowly, and once it touched the ground, the ball disappeared, leaving our favorite manga artist, and good friend standing there.
“Wh-what? What happened?”
Axol’s thoughts were quickly interrupted by Melony tackling him to the ground in a huge hug.
“M-Melony? I’m… I’m alive?!”
“Yes, Axol! You’re home!” Melony said through her tears. Before Axol could get another word out, Melony kissed him with great passion, which Axol returned, though he was turning crimson from this. After almost a month of grief, the two were back together not just as friends, but as lovers.
A lot has happened to the entire group, but Meggy and Melony took the biggest blows to the heart. After so much suffering, it’s only deserved for them to get something good in return for their hardships. And what could be better than being with their friends… all of them.
