himshe were obviously
upset about something.
she looked like
she might cry and she
didn't smile or make a joke
or a snide comment
as she entered the office.
i stood up immediately.
whoever did this to her
was going to pay.
then she said what happened.
i could tell even after
she was still upset.
i vowed that night to
be kind of her.
not like i usually wasn't,
i just joked a lot.
that night i remember
seeing her start to smile
and laugh again
and feeling myself
do the same.
