Chapter One

~~~~~ Chapter 1

Kurapika trembled. The world around him began to engulf the small boy. He and Leorio were sharing a hotel room (with separate beds of course) whilst Gon and Killua had left to play Greed Island. The two had decided to hang out whilst Kurapika was off bodyguard duty. The conjurer whimpered as lightning struck. There was a huge storm over Yorknew City- Leorio was sleeping peacefully. Kurapika's breathing picked up the pace as he squeezed his eyes shut with the flash of lightning. The rumbles of thunder made him pull at his hair and hug his knees close to him as he sobbed. He was under his bed sheet. 

Memories of how the Kurta Clan was mercilessly slaughtered during a storm that fateful night ran through his mind as tears spilled down his face. This wasn't fair, why did this have to happen to him...? His clan... his family... The spiders had made him walk the world alone. Kurapika swore to avenge his clan. He cried harder, wanting to reach out to the family he no longer had. More lightning, thunder and rain crashed down and he pulled even harder on his golden hair. He seemed strong. He was strong. But his weakness was his mind, and his friends. Emotions were overwhelming the conjurer now, Kurapika only cried harder. What could he do..?

He flinched when he felt arms wrap around him, which he didn't recognize until a voice spoke.

"Hey Kurapika... it's okay, it's okay.. I've got you..." Leorio. Kurapika must have let his guard down in panic. He continued to cry as Leorio comforted him, the taller male soon let go, but only to join Kurapika under his bed sheet. His warm body engulfed Kurapika in another hug. "I'm here for you, Pika..." He whispered. Leorio ran his hand through blonde hair, moving it out of his face whilst also offering more comfort. He used that same hand to wipe the relentless tears off of Kurapika's cheeks. 

"You're okay, I'm right here..." Kurapika began to calm down slightly with his soft words as Leorio brought his head to his chest and caressed his cheek, whispering sweet words of reassurance. The blonde could hear Leorio's calm heartbeat, and relaxed at his gentle touch as Leorio played with his hair and brushed his fingers against his cheek slightly. Leorio laid them both down and decided to sing a small song for Kurapika; he knew it helped the other to relax whenever he heard music, and it was an easily accessible thing to distract him from the storm. Kurapika had thanked Leorio quietly before he had fallen asleep. "Goodnight, Pika.." Leorio whispered quietly, holding the smaller boy close to his body to potentially protect him from the storm. Leorio continued to caress Kurapika's cheek gently and play with his hair before he too, fell asleep.

The next morning Kurapika had woken up to find himself alone, he was still emotionally drained from the night's events, but got up regardless. Rubbing at his eyes and yawning, he began his morning routine. The chain user always started his morning the same... brushing his teeth, taking a shower, drying and combing his hair, putting in his grey contacts and getting dressed into his usual attire. He did all of this in a matter of minutes, heading out of the bedroom of the hotel room and into the main room, where he was greeted by Leorio. "Good morning, Kurapika." He smiled softly, "I've prepared breakfast for us." Kurapika was slightly surprised at this, but smiled warmly.

"Thank you, Leorio..." He said as the taller male ran over to the kitchen area to grab their breakfasts. The hotel wasn't too much, but the rooms you could stay in were really big, they consisted of the main living area, a bedroom or two, a kitchen and a really nice bathroom. Everything you'd need for everyday life could also be supplied if you asked. It was a hotel made for hunters, only hunters would be able to stay, and they had to give proof of their hunter licenses. There were about five different rooms on each floor, which showed how big the rooms actually were. They each had a balcony too, and it gave such an amazing view of the mountains in the distance and the beach. The sunset would always look breathtaking. The two would often have nights on the balcony, watching the sunset with some fruity drinks and snacks. Sometimes, though rarely, they brought alcohol.

"Of course!" He had a stupid smile on his face but it made Kurapika smile all the same. The two men ate their breakfast with little chatter, talking only when small topics came up. Neither mentioned the previous night.

Kurapika was just about to get up from the table before he received a call. It may have been from the Nostrade family, but it was unexpected, so he looked at Leorio who nodded for him to take it.

"Hello?" He grabbed his plate,
"Mmh..." He carried his plate to the kitchen.
"Okay... okay- yes," He placed it into the sink and started the warm water.
"I'll see you soon." He hung up. Leorio joined him in the kitchen, placing his plate in the warm water as it was filling.

"What was that about..?" He raised an eyebrow at the blonde.

"I am needed. I must guard the boss and I have to leave in about twenty minutes, they're in a hotel about five minutes away." He replied, already moving to the bedroom to collect some things he'd need. Leorio only nodded in understanding before turning off the running water and sitting on the couch in the living area to watch tv.

After only a few minutes, the conjurer left the bedroom, said a small "goodbye" to Leorio and left the hotel without another word.
