I wake up to the sound of birds chirping and the sunlight beaming through my curtains. I rub my eyes and sit up, looking at the time, 10:17am. I groan and get out of bed, pushing my blanket to the side and walking into the bathroom. I brush my wavy red hair and brush my teeth before applying some light makeup. A little bit of mascara and eyeliner never hurts.

Shawn had invited me over today to work on a song with him. After Monday, he told me how he had been looking for someone to collaborate with on a song he had written, and said when he had heard me sing he know I was the perfect match.

I walk to my closet pulling out some sheer black tights, blue jean shorts, a white tank top, and a patterned cardigan. I get dressed and slip on some combat boots to complete the look and grab my backpack, exiting my room and going downstairs to the kitchen, seeing a note from Jack saying:
Left early to go to studio w/ G -J

I sigh, somewhat relieved that he wasn't home. If he were, he'd be questioning me continuously about where I was headed. I check my phone again as I take a water from the refrigerator, pushing it into my bag. It's 11:04am now, and he wants me to be at his place by 11:30am so we can have enough time to edit and rerecord if needed.

I make sure to grab my keys as I walk out the front door, making sure it's locked. Picking up my skateboard, I walk to the sidewalk and set it down before pushing off toward Shawn's house. He doesn't live far from Jack and I, he lives in the next neighborhood over from ours.

After about ten minutes of riding, I arrive at his house. It's a stunning home, his mom and dad sure do take really good care of the place.

I kick my board up, grabbing it and placing it on his porch before knocking on his door. A few seconds later, a girl who I'd assume is his younger sister opens the door and smiles.

"Hey, are you the girl who's working with my brother on his new song?"

I nod, smiling at her, "Yeah, he told me to be here by 11:30. I'm Kat, and you're Aaliyah, right?" I ask. She nods back then lets me inside, shutting the door. We talk for a minute before Shawn comes running down the stairs, shirtless with socks and basketball shorts on.

"Aaliyah, she'll b-" He starts talking but pauses when he sees me, blushing a little. My eyes go straight to his abdomen, looking him up and down. His torso is chiseled and refined, matching his tanned skin and bone structure. He's always been a very muscular person, but this is the first time that it's ever caught me off guard

He walks closer and pulls me into him, wrapping his arms around me. I smile softly, hugging him back and smiling up at him. He looks down at me, smiling as well as he hesitantly lets go.

He clears his throat, biting his bottom lip before speaking, "So, uh, the studio is downstairs, if you wanna go ahead in there while I run upstairs and get dressed. If you need help finding it, I'm sure Aaliyah wouldn't mind showing you."

I nod, and he turns to go back upstairs making sure he takes his time. He probably knows that my eyes are on him, until he reaches the top and disappears behind another door. I chew on my bottom lip out of habit, I tend to do it when I'm anxious or nervous. I look around the room before spotting the stairs leading to the lower level, and walk down them into another hallway.

There's two doors, one is open showing me a bathroom and the other a closed door that I presume is the studio. I walk up to it, turning the knob and opening the door to reveal a large space, with two separate sound booths. One consisting of a drumset, multiple guitars hanging from the wall, along with bass guitars as well as a grand piano sitting in the middle of it all. The other only has two microphone stands in it along with two stools beneath each one.

On the outside of both rooms is a large digital audio workstation, two different computer screens, and a table with crumpled pieces of paper and pencils as well as a few notebooks. This is one of the nicest places that I've seen, it may even be nicer than Gilinsky's studio.

I walk inside, setting my bag down and taking a seat in the desk chair as I hear footsteps coming down the stairs. A moment later, a fully clothed Shawn walks in, smiling at me.

"So, what do you think?" He asks me, looking around a little as I do the same.

I smile as I turn to face him, crossing my legs, "Pretty impressive, Mendes."

He chuckles lightly, before we get to working on the song itself.

A few hours later, he steps out of the booth with me as we laugh at some sassy comment he had made.

"See and you wonder why people call you Muffin Man!" I say, laughing as I sit in one of the desk chairs by the sound workstation. He takes a seat next to me, laughing and shaking his head at me.

Our laughter finally begins to die down and we stay silent for a moment, but it's a comfortable silence. He looks at me and a smile begins forming on his face as he places his hand on mine. I look over at him, he laces his fingers with mine as we make eye contact.

He chuckles lightly to himself before speaking up, "Is it okay, if I, uhm, t-try something?" he stutters. I shrug, confused as to what he could mean but nod, giving him the okay. "Close your eyes," he says.

I do as he tells me and sit there confused before I sense him get closer to me, placing a gentle hand on my neck just below my ear and his lips brush against mine. After a hesitant second, I move forward to fully connect our lips together, feeling myself relax with him as our lips move in almost perfect sync with each other.

I slowly pull away, resting a hand on his chest as he smiles softly. Our foreheads rest against each other as we both relax, and I smile as well. He opens his eyes and lifts up, relaxed and puts his hand down as the other is still holding my own, "You, I, wow," he says, causing me to giggle quietly.

Moments later as we sit there enjoying each others company is silence, my phone begins to ring. Picking it up, I notice it's my brother. I answer, slightly annoyed that he called when he typically doesn't even have the decency to be kind to me.

K: Hello?
J: Where the hell are you Kat and why aren't you home? Mom put me in charge of you while she's out of town, so where the fuck are you and why didn't you tell me?
K: Jack, I'm seventeen years old. You need that you do not control me, and for the past year and a half you have been nothing but hateful and awful toward me. I used to look up to you as if you were a damn superhero, and you would treat me as if I was your best friend. You protected me and loved me, but now you act as if I'm dirt. So I'm not going to tell you where I am because truly it's none of your business.
J: I-I-
K: Save it, Jack.

I end the call finally satisfied that I had stood up for myself for the first time in my life. Shawn smiles at me, saying, "I'm proud of you, you did good."

I smile, relaxed as I lean back in the chair I'm in when Shawn's mom calls us for dinner.

Today has been one hell of a day.
