Connor
Turns out, tracking devices are not easy to use.
And as the only person currently present who doesn't know how to use a tracking device, I must wait patiently for the others to find my sister's location.
You may think that I'm a bad brother for not worrying about my sister, but the truth is, I am worried.
I just don't want to show it.
The door to Professor Evergreen's office opens. Stuart – the blue fur/hair dwarf – steps out.
"Connor, we found her." Stuart says.
I spring to my feet and rush into Prof. Evergreen's office.
Upon entering, I see Astrid sitting on a long sofa in front of a giant hologram screen. Astrid wears some weird blue glasses that normal people definitely don't have.
"Where is my sister?" I ask them.
I turn to Prof. Evergreen, and he points to the giant hologram screen on the wall. "That's the map. The red dot is where Nicole is."
Astrid adjusts her glasses and continues examining the giant screen. "It looks like she's in an abandoned warehouse not too far from here."
"Then what are we still doing here? Let's go!" I shout.
Damian and Nirvana come inside, carrying some brown boxes. They place the boxes down next to the drawers behind Prof. Evergreen's table.
"It's not that easy, we have to do a lot of preparation. Going there and just winging it is basically suicide." Damian says, opening one of the boxes and handing Professor the papers inside it.
"At least we know they didn't drug her or anything to make her unconscious.. or dead." Nirvana says, in an attempt to be positive. (As you can see, she's not very good at it.)
I turn around to face them. "How do you know?" I ask.
"Her power is controlling people's dreams and stuff like that. She's a dream walker." Damian explains.
"The dream world is my domain." Nirvana says in agreement.
"So she's not unconscious? How do you know she's not dead?"
Don't blame me for having so many questions, you probably would too if someone you care about got kidnapped.
Nirvana shrugs, as if this isn't a big deal at all. "I just know."
Her apathy makes me want to scream, but I try to calm down and take a deep breath.
I turn back to the screen and study the map carefully, trying to memorize it. But something about it feels off.. "How can you be sure that it's not a trap?"
Prof. Evergreen sighs and puts down his pen. "We can't."
I groan and flop down onto the couch face-first, landing right next to Astrid. I hear Astrid chuckle, she pats my back. It's a normal, comforting gesture, but for some reason it makes my stomach do a flip.
"Don't worry, I have a feeling Nicole is going to be fine."
I sit up and face her. "Really?"
Astrid smiles and nods. Trying to reassure me.
"Connor has a soft spot for Astrid." Damian says. He sounds like he's whispering but it's just as loud as his normal voice.
I stand up and face Damian so fast it makes me dizzy. "I do not!" I protest.
He looks at me with a confused expression. "I didn't say anything.."
"Connor's going insane.." Nirvana says in the same tone Damian used.
"I'm not insane!" I shout at her.
Nirvana flinches. "I didn't say that out loud."
"Yes you did, you said that I'm going insane."
My head starts to hurt as Astrid whispers something to me, but even though she's whispering, her voice is as loud as a scream. "Connor! Can you hear me?"
I wince and cover my ears. "Of course I can hear you. I'm not deaf."
Astrid's eyes widen in surprise, but Nirvana and Damian look at me like I'm crazy.
Prof. Evergreen hops down from his chair and suddenly appears in front of me. By now, I know better than to be surprised. He waves his tiny hands in a circular motion, and then I start to feel sleepy.
I collapse, but someone catches me.
Then everything turns dark.
