Funeral Day

Flashback

Elizabeth's POV

--

I open my eyes to the sun shining in my face. I look over to my right to see Pippa peacefully sleeping on the mattress we share. On my left is a snoring Oak and Leslie and Nicolette are on the couch. The both of them are fast asleep as well.

Trying not to wake them up, I slowly slide out of the "bed" and onto the cold floor. I check the time on my phone.

6:22 am

I sigh at that.

I know it's time.

Time to get up and get dressed for the day that I dread most.

Putting my best friends to rest.

The more I think about it the angrier I get. I try to prevent the tears from falling from my eyes.

I wanna scream my head off but I'm really trying not to wake up the others. They really need to get some sleep, especially Leslie.

It's been three weeks since the collapse and I swear he's only slept for 5 out of the 23 days.

I get up quietly and tip toe to the bathroom to get ready.

Oak's POV

I open my eyes and notice that Lizzi's spot on the small bed we made is empty. I look forward and I notice the bathroom light is on.

She must be in there

Everyone else in the room with me is still sleeping so I go to Lin's dressing room where he and Chris stay. I knock on the door and wait for an answer.

Lin opens it. He looks like he just woke up. I peek inside and see Chris getting up off the mattress that they sleep on.

"Hey." Lin whispers.

"Hi." I smile slightly.

He lets me inside and I sit down on the small couch.

"So... are you ready for today." Lin asks, making me realize the events for today.

I tried to forget it. That's the only way I was going to sleep last night. Otherwise I would've pulled an all nighter.

Oak?

I'm really not looking forward to today.

I really don't wanna see their deceased bodies.

I don't want to live with that image.

I don't want to hear the screams and cries of their family members.

I don't wanna close their caskets.

I don't wanna lower them into the ground

I don't want to have to face the reality that they're gone... forever.

Thinking of all of this just overwhelms me.

OAK!?

Lin's POV

"So... Are you ready for today?" I ask Oak.

He doesn't answer me. He looks like he's in a trance.

"Oak?"

Still nothing.

"OAK!?"  Chris screams.

Tears roll down his eyes as he put his head in his hands.
