"New patient in room four is ready, Korra." Jinora said as she hung up the clipboard outside the exam room.
"Great, thank you." Korra picked up the chart and read it. She opened the door and kept reading for a second.
"Hi, I'm Doctor...oh! You must be Diesel. It's so good to meet you!" Korra said as a large German shepherd came running to greet her and jumped on her. He was a little over a year old, so he still had a lot of energy.
"I'm so sorry! Diesel, sit." A woman's voice said. The dog tried his best, but he was too excited.
"It's fine, I love animals, my dog is just as...bad..." Korra looked up and saw Diesel's owner for the first time.
Sexy. She was incredibly sexy. Drop dead gorgeous. Korra wondered if this woman were a supermodel of some sort. Surely someone like that had the vet come to their house though. Still, Korra was mesmerized.
"Hello, I'm Asami. Asami Sato. It's nice to meet you, Doctor Taqqiq." The woman said.
"Uh, nice to meet you too, Miss Sato. I'm Doctor Taqqiq." The woman giggled at her misstep. "Er, right I mean, so this is Diesel. He seems like a sweet boy. Can you tell me a little bit about why you're here today?"
Korra went back to professional mode. She got on the floor with the dog, no sense in hefting a dog that large onto the table if it wasn't necessary. She had learned that with Naga. She started looking over the dog while his owner spoke.
"Right, yes, well, he's almost a year and a half old. I got him from a very reputable breeder, only does one litter at a time, gives them lots of love..."
"Hey, I'm not here to judge you if you wanted a German shepherd. He's obviously well cared for, that's all the matters."
"Thank you. I just...so many people give me a hard time for it. That's one reason we are here, actually. I...it was time for a new vet. My previous one had...it wasn't a good fit. So, I wanted to get him in here and get him established."
"Sounds great. Yes, I see his records here from his last vet, and the records from the breeder's vet." Korra was impressed, hardly anyone bothered with patient charts when changing vets. "Any health concerns?"
"Nope. He's just...so enthusiastic. I know I need to get him fixed soon, but I've been told in larger dogs it's best to wait until they're done growing. Something about the growth plates? I'm...that's not my area of expertise."
"Correct, if you can help it, it's best in the larger dogs. Studies have shown it helps with hip issues, joint pain, that sorta thing. But so much of that is luck of the draw, too. Can't really help it. What happens though is that the sex hormones actually help the growth plates stop growing at their...it's like their preprogrammed time. When you take those away, sometimes the joints don't quite match up as well as they should. But again, I'm not here to judge. It's my professional recommendation to wait, if possible. But there are circumstances outside of people's control."
"Ok, that's good to hear. Everyone I know just keeps telling me to fix him already."
"Eh, it's not their dog. Now, let's see here, only one vaccine today, and it's not a needle! Isn't that nice, Diesel?" Korra started to coo at him, he barked and wagged happily at the attention. Korra asked the woman about his diet and exercise and was satisfied the woman was caring for him. "He seems perfectly healthy." Korra declared to his owner. "He's a very good boy, yes you are!" Korra cooed the last part at the dog. He barked and jumped around some more. "Just a second and we will get him vaccinated."
Korra left out the door to the back and made the mistake of leaving it open a crack. She was just getting the vaccine, which was already waiting for her, having been set out by the vet tech, Jinora.
