Never Say Never

One might say that I have the makings for a perfect life. I have a great job, the cutest dog in the world, my parents are amazing even though they tend to annoy the living shit out of me everytime they get a chance, great friends, and the best part? I'm single and always ready to mingle.

The only annoying thing in this whole situation is my mom and my dad who keeps on insisting that I should settle down with either a man or a woman, whichever I prefer as long as I settle down. I'm not ready for that. I'm Korra Waters, one of the youngest entrepreneurs in existence and I refuse to settle down anytime soon. That's what I want to say until...

"You're engaged, just letting you know" My mom dropped the bomb one night as we were eating dinner at their house

"Excuse me?" I deadpanned at her

"Your mom's not lying, you're engaged." My dad repeated

"What do you mean? I don't remember dropping on one knee infront of anyone or anyone asking me to marry them? What's going on?" I was thoroughly confused at the situation "engaged? Please? Not on my watch" Is what I wanted to tell them

"It's an arranged marriage, Korra. Your father and I are just worried about you. We keep asking you to settle down or date someone long term but you're not listening"

"I do date people" I said defensively

"Sleeping around is not dating, there's a difference, Korra" Dad said, his eyebrow raised

"So you're forcing me to settle down? Since I refused to settle down myself, you're gonna force me. Is that how parenting works nowadays?" I stood up "This is ridiculous"

"Korra!" my mom called out

"I'm not getting engaged! Not while I'm living and breathing!" I said as I started walking away

"You have a dinner with them tomorrow night" My dad said which made me stop on my tracks

"Excuse me, I have a what now?" I slowly turned to look at them

"Dinner at 7 pm. Kwongs" Dad continued

"Looks like, YOU have a dinner" I turned on my heels once more

"IF you don't go..." My dad started which sent chills down my spine. My eye started twitching. I hate it when he does that whole IF shit

"If I don't, what?" I took the bait

"If you don't go, I'll just have to sell all your shit for a dollar. Sell your house to the lowest bidder. Remove your name from the board. Send Naga to the pound." He smirked which made me scrunch my face

"You can't do that! I'm 27! I can do what I want!" I crossed my arms on my chest

"I'm still your dad. You'll be homeless, cashless, and the worst part, since you don't have either, you can't take anyone home" Another smirk

"What the hell, dad! You can't do this to me!" I narrowed my eyes at him then looked at my mom who was just smiling knowing that my dad just won this argument "you can't be on this too. If you sell everything I own and remove me from the board, I'll just crash back in here"

"You're not coming back home either. You can't go anywhere" that stupid cocky grin still plastered on his face

"Fine." I raised my hands up in defeat "I'll go that stupid dinner but if I don't like this person that you're setting me up with. I'm out. You have one chance, dad. One. If this doesn't pan out—"

"If this doesn't pan out then we'll just arrange you with someone else until you finally settle down with someone." My dad cut me off

"Just go to dinner with them, Kor. You go out with all these other ladies every night, what's one dinner gonna do to you?" I sighed in defeat.
