Walking through the camp next to the brunette was akward to say the least he seemed to look at me like he knew me from somewhere and couldn't place it, sick of the silence and only hearing Drew's voice in front of us I spoke up,
"Do you know me?"
"Well that depends" the guy, Laurie, said.
"On what exactly?"
"Your full name, godly parent, age stuff like that" he explained
" so what I'm hearing is you might know me but aren't sure cause you don't know enough, fine then" I took a breath "my name is Vienna I don't remember my last name, sorry, I don't quite know my godly parent but poppies have something to do with them, and I'm about 15/16 ish again I'm not too sure on that because well, that's what amnesia does" I spewed.
He didn't respond and just kept walking until we stopped in front of this baby blue manor with white trim, four stories high, with a wrap around porch with a table and cards, despite the nice look of the house every instinct in my body is telling me I'm on enemy ground, I should run or fight, I feel for my ring on my hand still, just in case.
" i'm not supposed to be here" Jason said voicing my thoughts. Once drew started talking I zoned out, until a man on horseback appeared, wait no, he was part horse, a centaur. Chiron started to smile at me and Jason until the color drain from his face.
"You two... should be dead." Well thanks mr sunshine, as if I wasn't anxious already. He harshly invited me and Jason into the house, Laurie too for some reason and ushered Drew back to her cabin. After somehow squishing himself into a magical wheelchair he guided us to some leather couches by a fireplace with a leopard head overtop which snarled at me and Jason.
" now Seymour," he chided "Jason and Vienna are friends. behave yourself"
"It's alive! That thing is alive!" Jason said. Chiron threw a snausage at the leopard who ate it real quick. Where does the food go?
" you must excuse the decor" Chiron said "it is a parting gift from our old camp Director before he was recalled to Mount Olympus"
" he thought it would help us remember him, Mr D had a very... strange sense of humor" Laurie said unsure of his choice of words as Chiron gave him an approving look.
"Mr D? Dionysus?" Jason said
"Mmm hmm." Chiron poured lemonade, though his hands were trembling a little. "As for Seymour, well, Mr. D liberated him from a Long Island garage sale. The leopard is Mr. D's sacred animal, you see, and Mr. D was appalled that someone would stuff such a noble creature. He decided to grant it life, on the assumption that life as a mounted head was better than no life at all. I must say it's a kinder fate than Seymour's previous owner got."
Seymour bared his fangs and sniffed the air, as if hunting for more Snausages.
"If he's only a head," I said, "where does the food go when he eats?"
"Better not to ask," Chiron said. "Please, sit."
Jason and me took some lemonade, though my stomach was dying of anxiety and I feel ridiculously exhausted. Chiron sat back in his wheelchair and tried for a smile, but anyone could tell it was forced. The old man's eyes were as deep and dark as wells.
"So, Jason, Vienna," he said, "would you mind telling me—ah—where you're from?"
"I wish I knew."Jason said and I told him the whole story, from waking up on the bus to crash-landing at Camp Half-Blood. I didn't see any point in hiding the details, and Chiron was a good listener. He didn't react to the story, other than to nod encouragingly for more.
