(Short chapter)
The next day, Sophie woke first. She nudged Rofin. "I never did make it to the guest room"
He only "mmmph" 'd and pulled her back down "Do'n wanna get up. Vacation. Mm"
She burrowed back in, and dozed off.
But a moment later they were both awakened by a patter of pebbles being thrown against the window.
"Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!"
Sophie giggled. "I think that's our alarm."
He grumbled, "Be glad they didn't come in. Last time they jimmied the lock and jumped all over me. I think they are a little afraid of you."
She kissed him and answered, "Good thing I never made it to my room then. But come on, we'd better get up. I need to take care of things, and you do have a duty to spend time with your parents."
He groaned and threw a pillow, but she had already hopped out of range.
"Dumb kids ..."
*****
"EEEEEEEEEEEEK! Rofin, get in here!"
He bolted up and follow her shrieks to the bathroom. The children had pried open the window a few inches, and there were now dozens of frogs hopping about!
Rofin stared aghast. "What the- Are you alright?"
Sophie had collapsed against the far wall in a fit of giggles. "Oh - oh, is that what they like - hehe, two can play at that game!"
He grumbled again. "Help me put them back out the window." She grinned, "Oh, stop being a grouch. Wait, you'll see, we'll get them. I might need your help though. Do you have any ..."
*****
Sometime later
"OK, let's leave these where they will find them. You're sure they like sweets?"
"Positive. I don't know why, but there is a strong preference for chocolate."
She grinned slyly.
"Let's leave these out then, did you set up the camera?"
"Yes."
"OK, let's get out of here."
*****
The children raced each other through the house, and paused in the kitchen.
"Hey!" said Lisk. "Little chocolate cakes!"
"YUM!"
......
"BLECK! it's got a sponge inside! ptui!"
Meanwhile, in his room, Rofin and Sophia watch the scene.
"Oh, their faces!" cries Sophie, "hehehe"
Rofin smiled, but looks at his wife with some surprise. He didn't know she had it in her to pull pranks!
A knock at the door, "Uncle Rofin, it's Lisk, may I come in?"
Closing the remote viewer, he calls out, "yes."
She stalks in, "How did you DO that!" she asks, with equal parts annoyance and admiration. "NOBODY gets me like that!"
Rofin just grins, and Sophie has to bite back a smile herself.
"Listen if you are like this then you're OK. I'm not gonna call you auntie or anything, but ..." She rubs her hands together. "Can you help me pull another one on the twins? I'm still mad they cut my hair" She rubs her trimmed head ruefully. "Sukie evened it out, but still"
Sophie nodded. "I understand completely. Do you have those distance communicators they use to monitor infants?"
"They're in the closet."
"Get them for me, please?"
Lisk ran out, and Rofin looked at Sophie. "How in all realities did you get her to do that? She still puts chewing gum in my boots! After chewing it!"
Sophie smiled. "You must have been a dour child. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Now, the chewing gum gives me an idea ... "
****
Sophie asked Lisk to hide the communicator in the garden, and then gave her some treats for the twins. "No tricks in these," she smiled. "Leave them near the communicator, like we did with the 'cakes'."
"Ha! OK."
A few minutes later, they heard her calling the twins, "Hey! Pilo! Milin! Look what I found! That girl Uncle Rofin brought must have left them."
The twins ran over, "Mmm, yummy!" They were blissfully gobbling down the chocolate candies, when a voice boomed out of the bushes behind them, "YOU'LL SPOIL YOUR DINNER!"
"EEK! RUN! IT'S HER!"
and the duo fled, while Lisk doubled over in glee.
Rofin nudged Sophia. "I think you just won their respect, if nothing else."
She leaned against him and smiled. "Works every time"
