(Awww. Aren't they cute?)
"Wha- what ..."
Talin gave him a shove, "Get in there, man. I'm going to go tell Huda. And the grandparents. Mom is going to flip."
Rofin stumbled in, and just stood a moment, taking it in. Sophie was propped up on the couch. Dark hair plastered to her forehead, her usually tanned skin pale, she held something tiny close ...
Rofin shifted from foot to foot. He never did know what to do!
"Rofin, come."
Hesitantly, he did, and knelt beside her, long limbs folding up to fit, "Ohhh, Soph, you did it. He's really here"
"Mmm." she smiled tiredly, "Would you like to hold him?"
At Rofin's blank look she laughed, and he felt relieved, she was alright! "Stop being so nervous, here, put your arms like this and hold him here ..."
Somehow he was holding the baby. His son! Sophie settled back in her pillows with a sigh. It had been absolutely grueling. The medic had tutted over her, seeming more annoyed at having to deliver a baby during the party than anything; and she was told she had screamed some truly awful things, but now their son was before her. She reached over the caress the wonder. "Look, Rof, he has dark hair already. And his eyes, they're shaped almost like mine, but with your color."
Rofin gently rocked back on his heels and settled on the rug beside Sophie's couch. Cautiously, he reached around and lifted a strand of hair off the baby's face. "Just like yours"
She smiled and shifted, "Give him back, he's going to be hungry soon."
As if in answer, the infant cracked open tiny eyes. Indeed, they already had the golden glow of his father's but the "shape" as Sophie put it, was hers. A trace of white was visible at the edge of the golden irises, and there were small but definite pupils in the centers. He opened his mouth and began to wail, so Rofin handed him to Sophie. She arranged herself, and soon the baby was contentedly feeding.
Rofin slipped an arm under Sophie's shoulders and kissed her, "Love, he is perfect. How did you do it?"
She snuggled against him. "Painfully! But that's over now. I just want to be home. But Rof, we never talked about it, what should we call him?"
He splayed one long hand across the baby, so tiny! "It would be good to use some portion of our names. It is not necessary, but it is traditional. Would Serafin please you? The beginning is yours, and the ending mine ... ha! rather like our 'courtship' if you like."
"Serafin sounds lovely. And <yawn> I am too tired to think of a good retort to that, but you just ... wait ... zzz"
Leaning on his shoulder, Sophie dozed, as Serafin made himself comfortable and Rofin held them both.
