It wasn't often that Eddie 'Tex' Sawyer got his panties in a bunch. Usually anything that had ticked him off would have been replaced with a sneer or sudden relief through other methods but not this time. If it was a case of ribbing Alfredo, they'd both be over it and only mutter comebacks at one another in passing. It was simply how they were but what seemed to be on the cowboy's mind was different and didn't come with any obvious motive or at least not one I was all too interested in.
Leaning against the radiator, I kept watch as he dropped on the bed with a heavy sigh as if looking for sympathy, I had none of that nor two fucks to give. Each moment he suffered was a moment I could savour and enjoy. Folding my arms, I couldn't help but feel myself smirk inwardly hoping that whatever ailed him held no bars, he deserved to be tormented for all he had done and will ever do. It was too late for redemption and it was clear he had no intention of changing. Eddie was far from innocuous and fed on the pain of others and Karma was due grasping him. I would not grudge it doing so sooner rather than later.
"Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed." I commented simply. Through the walls, the sound of Brittany vomiting continued along with the murmuring voice of Tinker. What he was saying I couldn't make out but there was no doubt that it was nothing comforting. Mama and her boys only pandered to one person and that was the devil that came from an unwilling victim of Junior's. Though Mama was more inclined to baby Tex when it came to her own children. The thought of there possibly being another Heather on the way was sickening and enough to make me shudder in displeasure. One was plenty. Watching the blonde for a second longer, I straightened up and tore my attention once I was sure he was focused on his own thoughts to the cupboard door. I had already given Brittany an idea of where she could get a coat hanger but if there wasn't one she could acquire then this was also an option, if and only if I could smuggle it past him. I frowned gently at the thought and tapped my fingers against my forearm trying to do the maths in my brain and piece something together but it wouldn't be an easy task. The fact the family was determined to keep me away from her in itself was a hindrance and gave limited windows of opportunity and that was if I managed to get past Tex to begin with. Unfortunately he could be quite observant when he put his keen mind to the task. Pushing myself up straight, I resisted heading there not wanting to give away any plans or make it seem like I wanted a game of dress up.
"You know" Tex's voice sighed from the bed as I glanced at him in the corner of my eyes. Fidgeting where he lay, he wrapped his arms behind his head, his legs slowly crossing each other at the ankles. "I'd be a heck of a lot peachier if you shut off that brain of yours. I can hear whatever you're cooking up from all the way over here."
"Noted." I nodded simply, "I'll be sure to think louder." He snickered wickedly at my curt response and turned his head towards me with a grin spread across his features.
"Looks like your little friend can live longer."
"Looks like you've lost your leverage." I retorted smugly. If Brittany was untouchable then there was nothing to blackmail me with. "From what I've heard from you all, when Junior is nesting the rest of you don't tend to get involved with his mate." Tex sighed and nodded to himself knowingly. "Oh, so that's why you're sulking." It was pathetically amusing to see his reaction to knowing such a thing but it was the truth. I could get away with fighting my own battles once again without him using the young redhead as leverage. Yes, I'd still get punished and brutally at that but whatever dignity lingered and hadn't yet gone out could be clasped onto tightly. "Too bad for you."
"Oh don't you try acting like you care honey, we both know you've been dying to let loose since we got Junior's pet." I didn't try to deny it, we both knew that all of my hatred, all of my sadistic tendencies gravitated towards him and it was well and truly deserved. His blue eyes inspected me from where he lay as if challenging me to try and lie or say otherwise. I found myself at liberty to do as I pleased in this moment and stood firmly. "Already wanting to be a bad girl, ain'tcha sweetheart? Must have a real itch for it by now."
"Amazingly people don't like it much when you kill their friends, torture them and keep them for your own sick amusement."
"Hope you're not looking for an apology."
"From you?" I raised an eyebrow while scoffing at him. "When Hell freezes over."
"That we can agree on." He nodded idly, "but we both know that you're not stupid. Which is why you haven't tried to choke me...yet. Anytime you wanna try, I'm ready for ya." I ignored the grotesque wink that followed.
"As pleasurable as that would be for me, you're right I am not stupid." I agreed, sitting on the roof of the radiator and keeping space between the cannibal and myself.
"Pleasure for me too honey but we both know I'm gonna have to keep an extra close eye on you now. Means when you're up to something I need to be ready for it. Not that I think you'd get far and even if you did, really think you can run or hide from us?" I refused to answer and instead bit my lip thoughtfully. He always had a point when it came to knowing this piece of land better and as much as I wanted to escape and get away, I couldn't. Not alone anyway. From the bathroom, the sickness seemed to have stopped, whimpers becoming more audible as Brittany was pulled past the door.
"Keep looking ahead bitch." Tinker ordered the young woman shoving his hook against her shirt as he led her to the stairs. "You so much as look back I'll give you a reason to cry."
"Least Junior will be happy." Tex called over to his sibling before both males started chortling in amusement. In response Brittany just sniffed and sobbed harder. My fingers clenched, my hands turning into tightly knit fists at her humiliation and plight. It only solidified that I could not leave her behind to draw out her suffering. It would be more difficult given her possible position but there had to be some way of achieving our goal of getting as far away as we could from the insane family. "Heck I bet they'll be as beautiful as our sweet girl."
"You're damn right boy. Might need you to do a little bit of shopping, that way we know for sure but I can bet it's exactly what we're both thinking."
"I'll head back out at the end of the week, I would go sooner but some people can't be trusted to behave." Tink glanced over his shoulder to look at me firmly at Tex's statement.
"Best behaviour Missy." He warned slowly, pointing a finger in my direction. "Did I tell you to turn around!" Turning his attention back to Brittany he smacked the side of her head pointedly. "Move your ass down those stairs!" Stifling her cries, Brittany did as she was told, clinging onto the bannister for dear life as she did. The tanned man quickly followed her, shoving her once more when she seemed to slow down. I could feel my eyes slit in his direction, hate swamping my body as my fists clenched only tighter.
"Ohh hoo." Tex sniggered, making me jump at him by my side. During the exchange he had managed to slink off his bed and sneak up close. Too close. Shoving my elbow backwards, I let out an unsatisfied noise when it failed to collide and was caught by his hand. "Someone is getting testy, wouldn't you say?"
"All the worse for seeing you."
"How'd you expect me to stay away when you were getting me all hot under the collar talking all about some strangling?" I shuddered as he caressed the flesh with his finger slowly and gritted my teeth. He was fishing for a reaction and while there was no blackmail over me any longer nothing could be planned when being punished or being tied back outside like a dog. "It's been a while since we had a fight." I glared darkly back at him before seeing that his belt was already in his hands and sighed knowing how it was going to go before it even began.
"You're pathetic." I breathed.
"Only with you." Tex admitted brazenly with a shrug tightening his grip over the leather strap, his thumb circling pointedly at the buckle. I swallowed the lump in my throat knowing that it was going to hurt for sure once he was finished with his antics but there was a relief that came knowing I could try and fight, to resist even if it ended in his favour. "Let's play." He sickly suggested his lips stretching into a wide and toothy smile.
"Ladies first Edward." I prodded back watching his amusement fade and replace itself with a hardened fury. He truly hated his name and while I had no idea why, it always gave me an edge when he was flying off the handle. It just happened to hurt twice as hard when he was finished.
