𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐑𝐘 𝐏𝐔𝐒𝐇𝐄𝐃 𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐎𝐎𝐑 to the diner and walked up to the host stand. He quickly glanced around but didn't see Jess. He looked back to the table when a hostess started talking.
"Hi, how many?" She asked Harry.
"Erm, just one," Harry responded, moving his eyes around to scan the area, once again looking for Jess.
"Okay, follow me." The hostess told Harry as she started walking away. Harry followed and noticed that he was being taken to the same area as last time.
Yes! He thought to himself as they approached the table.
"Alright, your server will be here shortly. Enjoy!" The hostess said as she set his silverware down and walked away.
At this point, Harry got a little anxious. It had only been a day since he was here. Was that too little time?
He was snapped out of his mind when he heard a voice say, "Hey welcome to- Oh! Harry! It's you again, nice to see you," It was Jess, finally.
"Oh, um hello," Harry replied awkwardly, his cheeks beginning to turn pink at the sight of Jess.
"What can I get you to drink?" She asked while taking out her book and pen.
"Hmm, just a water."
"Water, eh? Not into soda or anything?" Jess asked as she wrote down Harry's order.
"Not, really," Harry answered with a slight chuckle.
"Alright then Harry, here's a menu." Jess said as she set a menu down on the table, "I'll be back with your water."
"Thank you," Harry replied as he reached for the menu. He scanned the pages, thinking about what he was in the mood for. He saw chicken tenders and chips and immediately decided on that one. Chicken sounded amazing.
A few minutes later, Jess came back with two glasses.
"Okay Harry," She began to explain, "I got you the water you wanted, but also a Coke. Try it."
Harry examined the glass of brown, fizzy liquid before asking, "Is this poison?"
Jess let out a snort before answering, "No, it's not poison silly. It's just sugar and flavor."
"Okay then..." Harry slowly said as he reached for the glass and took a sip. It felt like the fizz slapped him in the face. He set the glass down, "Oh, wow, alright."
"Bad?" Jess asked, examining the look on Harry's face.
"No, not bad, just unexpected," Harry answered, scrunching up his nose due to the fizz.
"See, I thought you'd like it. Anyway, do you know what you wanna eat?" Jess requested.
"Oh, yeah the um chicken tenders and chips please," Harry ordered.
"Ah, more chips for you. Thought you liked them." Jess smirked as she wrote down his order, "I'll be back with that Mr. Harry." And she walked off towards the kitchen.
A little while later, Jess came back with Harry's food.
She set the plate down while saying, "Okay Harry, here's those chicken tenders. Let me know if you need anything else, alright?"
Harry looked up at her and replied, "Yeah, thank you."
Jess walked away once more and Harry looked back down at the plate of food, wishing the interaction was a lot longer.
She also wished she could talk to Harry longer, but her boss would definitely yell at her for doing so. As Jess walked back to the kitchen to check on another order, she once again prepared herself for whatever may be happening behind the door.
She pushed open the double doors to the kitchen and was immediately greeted with the smell of grease. Walking up to the serving station, one of her other orders wasn't there yet.
"Hey, where's table 5's order?" She asked the cook in front of her.
"Um, ask Lucas. He was working on it I think."
Great. Just who I wanted to talk to, Jess thought to herself. She rolled her eyes and walked to the other end of the kitchen to speak with Lucas.
As she approached Lucas, he said with a smirk, "Heyy Jess. How have you beeeen?"
"Doesn't matter, where's table 5's order," Jess requested.
"Hmm, I'll tell you if you go out with me," Lucas stated.
"Ugh, no. Just tell me please,"
Lucas thought for a moment, then replied, "Fine. it's almost done. Next time you owe me a date though."
"Fine, whatever I don't care. Hurry up." Jess anxiously said, knowing that the food was taking longer than usual. If the people at table 5 even thought about complaining, it would be all over for Jess.
"Alright, here," Lucas said as he handed the two plates of food to Jess.
"Thanks." She replied and walked out to the main dining area to deliver the food. She approached the table and told the people, "Sorry about the wait guys, but here's your order. Enjoy. Also, did you want a refill on that water?"
The person replied, "Sure, thank you so much."
Jess grabbed the glass and headed back towards the kitchen to refill it, but found herself unconsciously stopping at Harry's table.
Harry looked up from his empty plate, "Oh hey."
"Uh, hi. How was the food?" Jess questioned.
Harry thought about the question for a moment, before answering. "Very good, thank you. It hit the spot."
"That's great. I'll grab that from you and get the bill, alright?"
"Okay, thank you," Harry said as he grabbed the plate to hand to Jess. She took the plate and walked off with it. Harry felt his face getting warm due to Jess coming and talking to him. He gets red in the face very often, to his despair.
I wish I could like make a move or something, but what if she doesn't like me and thinks I'm a creepy dude??? He thought.
A few minutes later, Jess dropped off the bill and said with a wink, "Okay, here's the bill. I'll see you around Harry."
He looked down at the receipt to see a scribble at the bottom. It was a phone number. Jess' phone number. Harry smiled when he saw it, giving him the confirmation he needed. Jess doesn't think he's creepy.
