"Don't worry, Y/N. Your discovery is going to blow them all away."

Queen Leah said.

The young scientist laughed nervously.

"You know, you'd think hearing that from the Queen would be reassuring... But somehow it's worse."

Y/N shrunk into herself as she pushed the cart containing her competition entry.

Queen Leah smiled.

"It might do you well to remember that out of all the people in our kingdom, you were the one selected to compete today."

"Yeah, on the technicality that we are so behind the times, I'm the only person who's ever so much as heard of alchemy or mechanics, let alone used either of them."
Y/N muttered.

The Kingdom of Endura was... Old fashioned, to say the least.

Their way of life hadn't changed for at least two hundred years, hell, they'd barely accepted that horse-drawn carriages existed.

But, the worst part, in Y/N's opinion, was that none of them wanted to change. The people of Endura were happy living in blissful ignorance. Which was fine, to a certain degree, but Y/N's issue was that they were making their own lives needlessly harder and it was beginning to hurt people.

This, was where Y/N came in.

Y/N was the exact opposite of the people in her Kingdom. She created, explored, built, experimented. She was made for it.

Y/N strived for change, she relentlessly searched for answers. She enjoyed- understanding.

This didn't go down well with... Anyone else.

Every experiment was shunned and ignored.
Every idea was silenced the second it came out of her mouth.

This probably wasn't helped by the fact that her experiments frequently caused disruption because they were, well- experiments.

The only person who even paid her a second thought was Queen Leah.

Queen Leah, was- well- the Queen of Endura. She was a kind soul, who only ever cared about the good of her people. So, when she came across Y/N, she was immediately willing to let her help Endura however she could.

Y/N was an orphan, as far as she was aware. She had been alone her entire life, so she'd made the assumption.

Due to this, it was incredibly difficult to source affordable materials for experiments.

Queen Leah, seeing this, sent various articles of scientific equipment down to Y/N's lab in Lower East Endura.

At first, Y/N protested, but after a while, she realised it was futile and simply accepted the gifts gracefully.

Naturally, because of all this, when Queen Leah heard about the Exposition of Sciences that was being held during her visit to Corona, she informed Y/N that she would be coming along.

It wasn't optional.

So here they were.

"Your majesty? I think we're kinda early, they're still setting up..."
Said Y/N anxiously looking around at the people still setting up.

"Nonsense Y/N! Why, I can see a boy your age going to set up right now!"
Replied the Queen, looking over to their left.

Just as Y/N craned her head in that direction, a large mass ran at her, an arm hooking around her shoulder, a big booming voice accompanying it.

"My Queen! Little Icarus! There you are!"
Exclaimed the Queen's royal adviser, Jared.

Leah rolled her eyes with a smile, and Y/N's face became entirely neutral.
