The next morning , in English class, that seemed to stretch for eternity, our teacher, Mrs. Fletcher, asked a question about Shakespeare's sonnets. Mia, sitting near the front, confidently raised her hand, her expression brimming with self-assurance. Her answer, however, fell short of Mrs. Fletcher's expectations,"No, Mia. That's incorrect." Leaving her with a disappointed look on her face.Without thinking, I found myself raising my own hand. I hesitated for a moment, but then I spoke. I didn't think my answer would be right, but to my surprise, Mrs. Fletcher smiled of approval came as a relief.
The subtle shift in Mia's expression did not go unnoticed. Her features contorted with a mixture of annoyance and disbelief, her eyes locking onto mine for a split second. It was a silent battle, a moment that held the promise of conflicts yet to come.
When I turned to look away from Mia, my eyes landed on Alex, who gave me a wide smile that made my insides melt.
I've never really been in love. I've always been to busy with school, hockey and trying to get a scholarship, but now that I have one, maybe I can take the time to fall in love. I'm 16 years old but I haven't even had my first kiss yet. I have never been on a date. I've never even held a boy's hand romantically.
-
While I was walking in the hallway, switching classes, I felt someone put their arm around my shoulder. I turned and saw Alex looking at me with that same smile.
It's the type of smile that makes people want to melt. It's the type of smile that give people butterflies, and it's also the type of smile that makes people giggle and kick their feet.
"How about we go get lunch after school together?"he asked,"I know a really nice place next to the beach. It's called the beach shack."
"Are you asking me on a date?"
"Maybe. Yes"
"Sure, I'd love to."
"Okay, I'll get you at the hostel gate at two pm."
We continued walking next to each other with his arm around my shoulder until we got to class.
-
"What," Audrey shouted,"You're joking. He really said that." She gave me a hug and congratulated me as if I
won sum kind of reward. She looked even more excited than I was."Look at her blushing. Oh, someone has a crush," said Camila while pointing out my red cheeks.
"No, stop it. Just help me find something to wear. Does this look okay?" I asked them, after trying on what's probably the hundredth outfit.
"You look great. Now go," reassured Camila.
-
When I reached the hostel gate, I saw Alex waiting. When I walked through the gate and towards him, he looked up and froze. He had a surprised expression on his face that later turned into a huge smile.
"Wow. Y-you look gorgeous. Are you ready to go?"he said clearly a little panicked. "Yeah, thanks" We walked on the sidewalk next to the beach all the way to the restaurant.
I was surprised when I saw the restaurant. It was a lot fancier than I fought.
A waiter seated us at a table facing the ocean. We both ordered our food and drinks. I knew I had to eat so I tried to order something as small as possible, hopping he wouldn't notice something is wrong. What if he finds out I have anorexia, what if he'll lose interest to me and never wants to see me again.
We ate and talked for what felt like no time but was actually three hours. I found out that I actually have a lot in common with him and that I might actually like him even more.
After our date, he walked me back to the hostel, but stopped right before the gate to talk to me. He took my hands in his and said,"I really hope that you enjoyed it, because I did and I'm really glad I got to know you better. If you want to, would you like to go on another date with me?"
" Yes, I really enjoyed it to," I answered.
" Well, that's a big relief," he let out a sigh and I laughed,"I'll text you where and when. And before you go I just want to say, congrats with the hockey team. I know Mia can be a little... intense, but I'm glad you didn't let her get to you. I'll see you tomorrow, bye," he said as he took my head in his hands and gave me a kiss on the cheek.
-
As me and the girl walked back to our room after dinner, I told them every detail about what happened on our date. They were extremely excited and happy for me.
When I went into our room, I almost passed out. My entire closet of clothes were thrown on the ground and my bed's bedding were torn off and also thrown on the ground.
Audrey and Camila's stuff was still in place, but they looked just as shocked as I did. I looked back at my bed and saw a note on it that read,"Stay away from what's mine, wh#re, and stop trying to ruin my life."
