A few days later
Emberleys POV
I wake up hearing the beeps of mayas monitors in her room.
I sit up and I see carina talking with her, they're talking about me.
"Heyy, glad you're awake." Maya whispers smiling at me. She got her vision back a day ago. She's finally getting better. "What are you talking about?" I ask curiously rubbing my eyes and adjusting from the uncomfortable chair I've been sleeping in.
"We're talking about the case we're planning on building. Carina is going today to see if she can get a confession out of him before the police detain him."
I nod and maya sighs. "Why didn't you tell us?"
I shrug and she sighs once more.
"Emberley tell us now." Carina scolds and I nod.
"He slept with me around the time you guys caught me doing drugs. I just didn't want to add onto the stress."
"He didn't sleep with you. He raped you. Let's get that straight first. Next, you have to tell us these things. You have to communicate with us because if you don't we don't know what is happening. We're left in the dark once again." Maya explains shaking her head with tears in her eyes.
"And you don't think you do that too?? You don't think we've been left in the dark?" I ask, angrily.
Was that a low blow? Maybe. Do I care? Not at the moment.
"Emberley don't you dare." Carina snaps and I sigh. "Why? Why not?? We don't deserve to know when she's gonna have a breakdown and ruin everything she's worked for?? That's bullshit!"
"Em said a bad word!!" Juni yells sitting up from her sleep, her hair an absolute mess.
"She did juni. Don't talk to me like that. Don't talk to me or about me like that. I know my limits. I was doing this for the well being of not only carinas mental health but yours too. You don't understand that though. You see it as me hiding from you. You see it as me being manipulative-"
"Isn't that how mine is too? Isn't that how my situation is too? I hid that from you because you two had progressively deteriorating mental health. I was protecting you guys just like you tried protecting me."
Maya goes to say something else and juni chimes in again.
"She's right."
"You are the child. You need to tell us. We don't have to tell you everything. We are your parents. When you need to know things we will tell you. When you don't, we won't tell you." Carina reasons and then she turns to Juni. "Baby, go back to sleep"
"Mommy, em is in trouble because of a bad man like my daddy. You said rape. I know what that word means. It means he touched you in a bad way that policemen don't like. She is in trouble because she didn't tell you but I didn't tell anyone when my daddy did it to me. Does that mean I am in trouble?"
We all turn and look at juni, almost in shock. She has a point. "No baby, you aren't in trouble. Emberley, we're sorry." Maya says, the look of guilt washing over her face. Juni goes back into her own little world and I sigh.
"I'm sorry. I should've told you guys. I just don't feel like I should worry you when you've got so much going on. I'll tell you anything you want to know. Just ask." I explain twiddling with my fingers, picking at the skin that once covered my poor bloody hands. "Emberley. Hands." Carina warns and I nod. "I think I need to start going to Violet again. I just feel sad." I whisper and they both nod. "Okay. We will send you to violet. She can help."
