Golden hour

As a soft melody played from the small stage set on the beach, the night sky was already dark and the only natural source of light was the silver full Moon. August had already begun, and with it, the days were getting shorter and the sunset shone on the water's surface way earlier than just a few weeks before.
Each of the four boys on the stage felt the harmony they were playing in their veins: the fast bass line pumped in their minds, the loud thuds of the drums rang in their ears and the clean guitar riff captured everyone as if it was some kind of spell.
Soon, the upbeat melody was over as Jake elongated the last note, creating a melodious effect with his pedal board. The crowd burst into cheers and applause, acclaiming the four boys on the stage.
They hugged each other, bowing at the crowd in front of them before leaving the stage, contagious smiles spreading on their faces. Only one of the boys felt different. He placed his bass on the stand, sighing heavily as a sense of disappointment washed over him.
"Sunghoon, is everything fine?" The eldest asked, noticing the displeased state of the youngest.
Sunghoon raised his gaze from the ground, meeting his bandmates' worried ones, "It's just... I haven't enjoyed my performance. The volume of my bass wasn't high enough and I missed a few notes." He threw himself on a nearby plastic chair discouraged as the other boys followed right after next to him.
"I think you did great." Jay reassured him as the others agreed with him.
"Exactly, I could hear you loud and clear." Jake patted his shoulder, encouraging him. Sunghoon was always the most self-critical and insecure one of the bunch, "And I think your bass line was amazing! You improved a lot this summer."
Sunghoon looked up at them, still not convinced by their predictable kind words. He closed up on his shoulders, still looking down at his fingers, "I don't know, you all sounded amazing."
"And you did too, Hoon!" Heeseung tried to cheer him up, "Trust me, you're one of the best bassists I know, and I met a lot."
Heeseung's words were a clear reference to their early days as a band. He still could recall every moment when Jake and him would be looking for a bassist around campus, but all the ones they met didn't feel right enough for their powerful and emotional music. Meeting Sunghoon, with his striking and dramatic riffs, and Jay, along with his clean and sharp beats and drum rolls, had been a blessing for the duo.
His words were able to raise a smile from the discouraged boy, and deep down he knew that no matter how his performance went that night, whether he enjoyed it or found it complete trash, his bandmates were always going to be there for him, in his highs and lows.
"And besides," Jay stood up, encouraging the others to follow him, "There's nothing a good pint of beer can't make you forget."
The other three let out a group chuckle, following Jay towards the bar, after leaving behind their instruments.
