Friends don't date

Doyun looked around the small hall of the building, a frown visible on her face. She bit her lower lip as she rubbed her hands against her shoulders, regretting not bringing a jacket. It was unusual for the weather to be so chilly during the evening, as normally during the late hours of the night the heat was still present in the air.
She glanced at her phone, reading 7:15 p.m. on the display. Weirdly, Jake didn't text her back after the abrupt way he stopped her to talk just an hour before.
She leaned on the wall behind her, "Should I go upstairs to grab a hoodie?" She mumbled to herself, staring down at the summer dress she had chosen for that night. It would have taken just a few minutes, but what if Jake arrived at the exact moment she left the lobby?
Before she could even think about it, the door to the lobby opened abruptly, revealing the breathless boy she was eagerly waiting for. He didn't notice her at first, looking around to find her. Only when she softly touched his shoulder, he turned around to face her with a wide grin spreading on his face.
"Doyun!" He widened his eyes, "You're here."
His contagious smile grew soon after on her lips as well, "I am!"
"First of all, happy birthday again." He leaned on the wall next to her, gasping for air. Doyun could tell he was in his room and had probably run down the stairs because of his delay.
As he closed his eyes to rest for a second, Doyun took her time to secretly glance at him. His soft hair rested perfectly on his forehead, covering his eyes ever so slightly. He was dressed as usual, with a plain shirt and a pair of long beige pants, but this time a black cardigan was tied around his neck. He surely checked the weather, unlike me, she thought, slightly jealous of the warm garment on his shoulders.
He shot his eyes towards her, making Doyun look away from him as her cheeks turned a light shade of pink. He giggled silently, deciding not to tell her to not ruin the moment. He would have never admitted it in front of her, but he liked the way she would always get flustered by the smallest things in front of him. And he loved even more the way she looked at him every single time, with her big eyes and her usual gentle expression.
"Why did you want to see me?" She suddenly spoke, turning back to face him. He pushed himself up from the wall, towering over her, "Well, I wanted to repay you for your kindness towards me."
A small smile appeared on her face, but before she could speak, Jake interrupted her, "You know, ever since I met you, you helped me out many times, like when you took me to the city."
"Well, I happily helped you out, you don't need to repay me with anything."
"But!" He jumped up, gently grabbing her arm as he pulled her along with him before she could refuse to go with him, "Since today it's your birthday, I thought I'd offer you something. A drink in town maybe."
