Dreams of a Luminous star (ongoing)

Chapter 1

Another day of training and here I am sitting on the sidelines. For whatever reason my best friend skipped out today but no matter.

I watch as the other stars conjure the light from their bodies and form weapons as they continue to go one on one with each other. Each time gaining speed or adapting to movement of their opponents.

A star's gift usually manifests an eon after their birth. However, Its been two and a half eons and my gift was yet to manifest itself. My parents tells me that i'm just a late bloomer, that my powers will come when the time is right.

They're both on the hierarchy of the Luminous race, Elites rather, which means they're among the most powerful stars of our people. I often wonder if they're ever ashamed of me. If they ever feel embarrassed that their daughter is a star who's only ability is to glow. Literally the bare minimum.

Of course they've never done or said anything that would imply they feel this way, but that doesn't stop my overthinking mind from believing that maybe they do.

"Adeline!" The instructor called, snapping me from my thoughts.

"Y-yes coming" I hopped up and headed over to where he stood.

"Wanna try today see if your gift has awaken? You never know"

"I don't know..." I bit my lip nervously

I had tried a few times but got nothing, and each time i'd feel worthless so eventually I just stopped trying. I was sure now wouldn't be any different.

Come on, give it a shot. He stepped back allowing me some space as I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.

Here goes nothing. literally.

My glow shined a bit brighter but just as every other time, I got nothing. My instructor stared at me with sympathy as I heard a few stars among us begin mumble.

"Imagine being the daughter of an elite with no powers" someone whispered

"Imagine how her parents must feel" another said

"Ok bring it in" my instructor called out ending their murmurs

"That's all for today. Take a rest tomorrow and we'll meet again for training the day after."

With that everyone dispersed.

"Oh Adeline!" The instructor called out to me again.

"I want you to keep trying. I'm sure it'll awaken soon. Good chance its just buried deep down is all."

"Yeah..sure" was all I said before turning to head home.

"Adeline!!!" A voice called out "Addyy!!" It called again.
I rose up from my mattress recognizing the voice belonged to my best friend Celeste. Before I could even yell a response the room to my door was flying open and in came celeste with in all her gleaming glory.

"Omg Adz, I just saw the cutest guy" she said as she threw herself on the bed laying next to me.

....she's joking right?

"Cel did you seriously wake me just to tell me of some guy you met? And why weren't you in training today?" I asked in disbelief

"Yes but no. So remember how the moon festival is approaching soon?" She asked, ignoring my last question

"Yes and?"

"Well he asked me if to go with him and I said yes, but only if I can bring a friend"

"What?? You want me to be a third wheel on your date? Hell no!"

"Oh come on Adz, you hardly leave these grounds. The festival would be a great opportunity to get out and make new friends-"

"I don't need new friends I have you" I interjected

"True" she quickly agreed. "But still...who knows maybe the air and the excitement could help your gift awaken..." She said in a low tone.

"I don't know Cel, if i'm being completely honest i've started to give up on the thought that my gift may even awaken at all. I mean let's face it, its been two and a half eons and i'm still without gift."

"Maybe i'm not meant to have it or meant to be a traveller-"

"But you don't need a gift to be a traveller-" Cel interjected

"Oh come on Cel, you and I both know that 'Gift-free traveller law' is a load of bull. Everyone knows the dangers that lurks beyond each galaxy. Becoming a traveller without a gift is not an option. I'd be captured the minute I stepped off the edge of valdora or worse, killed"

"...I know Adz. I truly believe you have a gift it just needs some time is all. Just you wait, you'll see. You'll be one of the greatest like your parents if possible, better"

Cel was the best friend everyone needed. She always knew what to say to lighten your mood.

" So, the festival..." She said with a grin

Of course.

"Its at sundown Mauriter time. We'll head across to Lantos in time to meet with Elion and see the opening act."

Mauriter was the planet we'd use to determine the time of day throughout our galaxy, Valdora. The reflection of light on Mauriter coming from the sun, which is merely a partial embodiment of Lunaria, the leader, also known as an Arkana, of the luminous race and the strongest of our people, is what allows us to know the time of day.

This is the only star in our galaxy which exists in its true form as it is only part of another and serves one purpose.

"Elion? That's his name?"

"Yeah" she responded while beaming. "He's so literally so cute. Just wait till you see him, I think you'll like him"

"Sure I will"

"Ok so our plan is to meet with Elion, view the various acts see whatever is on display then leave straight after."

"The Pluvius race will be in attendance as well so its probably best to not hang around too long."

I almost forgot, each cycle the festival is opened to allies, the Pluvius race.

Truthfully i've never actually been in contact with any other race of stars. But that's not because I didn't want to I just never got the chance. When I actually did, I usually avoid approaching them seeing as I never know what to expect and rather not risk offending them in any way.

"Ok.." I said to Cel, "in that case we're all set."

"Wonderful!" She chirped, "Now all that's left is our outfit and we're ready for the festival"

"Don't worry, I already have mine picked out" I said as I walked into my closet.

"Of course you do" Cel said as she got up and head to the door

"I gotta go shopping-"

"What? Why? you ready have-"

"Imma come get you at sundown, love you!" She said as she was through the door.

You'd buy that girl an entire store, the clothes still wouldn't be enough.
