A tardy offer

Kokona had left me, but I was still roaming the hallways, looking around the clubrooms.
I knew school would put a strain on me - not that I minded it, because I liked learning - and I also had to rehearse with the marching band I was playing in, so I'd be even more overwhelmed by work, yet I couldn't help but be amazed at the wide variety of activities the students partook in. I would've joined a Foreign Languages club, if there were one, because it's my favourite subject. I had looked around the art, photography and light-music club for a while, and a few members, sensing my interest, had asked me if I had the intention of joining. Despite that, I still didn't know if I'd like those activities, so I preferred to give them the benefit of doubt.
Suddenly, as I was examining the library, a figure crept up behind me, making me wince. A girl with azure hair slightly smiled at me, though there was only boredom in her eyes.
"Do you like reading?" she said. "Not as much as I do!" another voice enthusiastically exclaimed. I shifted my gaze to look at the black-haired boy who had just entered the room.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Yamada Taro. And she is Demura Kumi, the librarian."
"Jeez, I can introduce myself!"
Demura rolled her eyes, and Yamada just burst into laughter.
"I'm the new student, Kihara Saori." After a bit of small talk, I decided to leave, as class was going to start soon. The two seemed like nice people, and I liked reading as well. As soon as I exited the library, however, I saw another female student suspiciously 'minding her own business' near the spot where the two bookworms had met - well, just a second ago it looked more like she was inquiring into their conversation. I lingered my stare on her a bit longer than normal, to which she abruptly turned her head towards me, observing me with hatred - how unexpected.
Weirded out by her uncommon behaviour, I decided to brush it off and head to class. There was a quarter left from the start of the lessons, when both I and the teacher were about to enter it. She saw me and, politely smiling, shaked my hand, introducing herself.

Fukahori, the Maths and Science teacher, searched through the papers in her bag, and took one out.
"Class 2-2, I see... your sit is in the penultimate row, fourth column counting from left..."
I processed her indications for a few seconds, and then went to my seat. Some students had yet to come, so the lesson still hadn't started. Those already in the classroom were either chit-chatting or playing on their phones. That gave me the time to look around the classroom. I stumbled upon a guy sitting at the desk on my right, who bore a bizarre visor, that displayed two eyes on it... his eyes, I think? Anyways, judging by his hair, he looked familiar. He realised I was looking at him, and approached me.
"You're the new student in our class, right?"
"Yes, but... haven't we already seen each other? Wait, you're Yaku Zaishi, and you play in the local marching band, don't you?" I exclaimed, finally remembering where my memories of him came from. "Yes, I play the trombone! You're one of the flutists, if I'm not wrong."
Our conversation went in the direction of his visor, which I was curious about, and his explanation regarding the unconventional device led to him talking about Chemistry and his experiments in the field. "By the way... are you interested in Science? You could join our club..." he asked, seeing I was invested in his narration. I chuckled.
"Is that something members from every club ask a newcomer at this school?" He looked faintly confused, but then retorted "Well, if so many clubs asked you to join them, then you must be really talented."
"It's not mathematically proven that clubs at Akademi aren't in desperate need of new participants."
"Well, for once, I'd like to believe it is so." Fazed by his attempts at flirting, I decided to give him an unconvinced smile and take out my books and pens, since the lesson was about to start in any case.

I spotted Aoi. She was sitting in the row in front of me, diagonally on my left. I wondered if she had recognised me.

I didn't expect to be interacting with already five people so positively. I was content now that I had the possibility of making friends, but I didn't know if I'd be able to actually be myself around them, revealing to them things that I'd never say to the average person, and so on. I still had issues myself with getting to know people beyond the surface level, but I decided to trust my instincts, and believe that they were nice and harmless so far.
